NORRIS - A Matt Sconce Film - Aftershock Studios

YES! ...I'm dying over here....and now I have to go shovel over a foot of snow we just got hammered with!

Looking forward to seeing this!

Okay everyone! Here is the short NORRIS. We still have some audio work to do and some ADR, but we are done for now until we finish Stricken. It is hilarious to us that this began as a "Hey, lets shoot a test of the Aftershock Bodycam and its attachments including the Maelstrom device" and turned into the full short NORRIS.:cheesy:

It is just a fun short. If you have trouble seeing the video on vimeo, watch it on Youtube in 720 goodness. I noticed sometimes the vimeo videos are a little dark, but the youtube videos seem to be brighter. Tell us your favorite part and enjoy NORRIS!

Loved it! Your best short IMO.
Sweet! That is always good to hear. We have learned a lot from filming Stricken, and grown as a cohesive production unit. This was a fly by the seat of our pants short. "What should we do now? Um...Let's have him chase him with the baton!" haha Thanks for watching!:cheesy:

Gary...OMG... A star is born! THAT was a lot of fun...I'm still dizzy.
Best of luck selling that puppy.

It was so fun to shoot!

One of my favorite parts is the HVX200 carrying Maelstrom spinning around me 2 complete times as I run fast into the parking structure and then, still in focus, stopping and following me through a door! THAT has never been done before as far as I know.

It still stops me in my tracks as I watch the short.

Amazing! It must have been right below the frameline.

It is on the waist, but did you notice that it is light enough to run with the rig in full motion? That thing is carrying and spinning a full HVX set up too! Cool.

Here is a post from Jason Miller:

...I've watched Norris now 3 or 4 times and I keep seeing things that impress me. the shot where he wakes up and gets up to run, and you come up behind him was awesome, there was also a cool low angle shot, looking up at you.

and i don't know if its because you have more practice, with this set up, or if its because a cop in a foot chase would be more cautious than a crazy masked bad guy, but your movements while wearing the rig looked much more natural than the other actors.

I'm also starting to realize that some of the awkwardness I feel when watching it in the walking running shots, mainly when it is behind the actor, is because *I've never seen this, I mean I've seen cameras follow close, *but they never matched the movement of the walker/runner, so as a viewer it makes me feel that rather than following the actor, I feel as if I'm in a giant papoose, I think the more the viewer gets used to this look the less awkward it will be.

I thought you mentioned another adaptation of it for high overhead shots? will there be footage of that soon?

and in case you haven't gotten the impression from the rest of this post, you have many shots in this film that just blew my freaking hair back. I mean *this thing is big, its a snorry cam, a steady cam, and some kind of new freaky rotational cam all in one, and yes with the way the actors move, it seems to be more compact and weigh much less than a snorry or steady cam.

I think the only thing that could make it better would be to actually shoot Chuck Norris on a cell to cut back from you to him at the end.

*Emphasis mine.

Yup. It is pretty nifty. You did see the high rig, but the shot was looking down at Norris when he climbed the stairs. You didn't notice it as the angle seems so natural. We shot the stairs with: A) The rear mount (low looking up) B) the front mount (from the rear and spun to the front too) and C) the high rig (from the front angle). Notice there are rotating Maelstrom shots all through the short from start to end. All shots, even those toward other actors were shot with the Aftershock Bodycam various attachments. Even the steady shots and the dutched shots were shot on it.

I am working on the patent pending... except for this post of course! I honestly CAN'T find anything that is like it. I am trying and trying with a deliberate and exacting background check of patents. I have found steadycams, body holding cams... but nothing like the Maelstrom. :cheesy:

Hey, whether I can patent it or not... We have one!!! Yay! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

The Aftershock Bodycam Maelstrom shot this short is... (Drum roll please...)

Ta Daaaaaa!

PATENT PENDING! :love4:

Whoooo Hooooooooooo! :kali:

Now I have to get the international patent rights and I can show the rig!
