Welcome to the thread for Action Short NORRIS. My father, Gary built a device called the Aftershock bodycam with many attachments, including a crazy new tool called the Maelstrom (Like the whirlpool from the Odyssey).

He had the idea for a short shot entirely on the Bodycam and its attachments and NORRIS was born. I directed and filmed the short and Troy Ruff was the AD with Gary Sconce as the Executive Producer. We filmed it in one LOOOONG night, and accomplished what we set out to do. We will be posting it on Youtube and vimeo as well as entering it. -Matt Sconce

We ran, jogged, went up and down stairs, laid down, got up, and fought a karate battle, all with the Aftershock Bodycam filming everything. :kali:

Matt was really creative with the shots, and typically Troy Ruff was rock solid as AD. We are whupped, but it was sure fun! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Funny running into you guys that night! The downtown spiral parking garage is a popular place to film it seems. :D

It was good seeing you there too Bryan. We had a wonderful shoot and did lots of laughing on set. Matt really runs happy sets and makes it more fun. One out take will be in the credits, and when it happened I laughed until my stomach was in knots and I hurt. :D

Oh yeah, it was all so much fun! We are working on the score right now. Sound design is next. We will be ADRing a few lines, then adding some small VFX and we'll be ready to post it. :grin: I think you will enjoy this one.
 
Score is finished. Starting and ending credits are finished. We are doing sound design and foley now... And we are laughing! :grin:

Yup. It is a tremendous location in downtown Fresno, CA. We also shot a short with our friend Mark Aro that he has in post called Sleeper near there. Mark, (BTW, a super talented guy!) is the editor for the feature Finding Hope Now and is a little busy now on that.

We finished over half of the sound design and foley last night. Gun shots, steps, etc. We are moving toward the finish line. We have a little ADR, (one short scene for me and two lines for Master Dave Johnson) We had our mike too far forward in the blimp and it barely touched the front of the blimp when the boom operator moved with the blimp. On the static sound check it didn't show up. I will sound check by jumping with the pole and blimp next time. Live and learn. Remember this for your sound in the future.

The short will be a little over 5 minutes long. It really shows off the Aftershock Bodycam and its uses, which is why I wrote it. It was sooooo fun to make! :thumbsup: You'll see why I had fun when you watch the short.
 
Hahahaha!! It is so fun doing a lighthearted short. STRICKEN is still happening too though. Double whammy.

The shots with the Maelstrom rig still take my breath away every time... :thumbsup:
 
All Color Correction done!

We are doing the final clean up.. Noise reduction, adding small sounds to foley we saw we wanted to add, and checking all spelling on credits. Release will happen in the next few days.

We had such a fun time making this short. It was done to demonstrate the Aftershock Bodycam in action, and also just to keep the creative juices flowing. We haven't neglected STRICKEN, but have just put in overtime to do NORRIS.

When you watch the short, notice the POV and Movement of the Camera. It is very interesting. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):
