No audio after recording

I'm flipping out! I had two lav mics hooked up and the levels are all good. I'm wearing headphones and it sounds good. Finished shooting and just played back a clip and NO AUDIO. The whole shoot has no audio. I cant figure out what is going on. Rechecked it and same problem. Audio shows up in meters and I can hear it but it doesn't record it. HELP!

Busted by recording in VFR I'd say. VFR doesn't record audio and Panasonic needs to fix the firmware so the meters don't show audio.

I had VFR on.Not sure why. I was going thru the menu so much I must have turned it on by accident. No audio records if its on. Be careful people. Lesson learned.

Yes, the unit will not record any audio when VFR is set to ON.

I strongly urge every shooter to leave VFR MODE OFF, unless you are actively at that moment recording VFR footage.

I also encourage shooters to leave the "other display" set to "all", so you can see on the screen if you're recording in VFR mode (the frame rate will show up in the lower left, it'll look like "24P" for regular mode, or "30:24p" or "24:24p" or "12:24p" or "60:24p" for VFR mode.

I would vastly prefer it if the headphones and levels would go silent when the unit isn't recording audio. But to work with it right now, all I can say is be diligent, and check to make sure VFR is off whenever you're recording audio.

How about strongly encouraging Panasonic to fix the problem. I agree that for now we need to be extra careful, but this was stupid of Panasonic to have the camera function this way. And this isn't going to be the last time someone is screwed over because of it. And if Panasonic is going to fix it, it would be nice if they at least let us know they are working on it.

I have encouraged them in the most vigorous terms to do exactly that.

Did you lose the days shoot?
I did. However I'm reshooting it today. Not a big deal since it was a in house promo shoot with station talent. It could have been much worse if it was a commercial shoot.
The footage looked amazing. So clean. Our news is going HD at the end of the month and I have been tweaking the set lights for a while now. Kino Flow parabeams in the grid for the main set. I had to put diffusion on them to soften them up even more. They look awsome!

We should get a Firmware request thread going on

So far we would have:
1) get rid of audio display when in VRF mode
2) give user color balance in LCD

Hey all,

I don't know if this has been brought up yet but if you take and push in, the "dial" on the back of the camera it will toggle the VFR setting.

I am concerned that switching to VFR that quickly, with just a "push" could cause a lot of people issues.
