No actors required

hmm....yes by all means get rid of the actor...who needs human touch...we could live without it.......the hulk was a fantastic creature ...so real.... not human at all?........look into his eyes there was so much soul there.....hey why not hire the muppets.........yes it's all about money and how much I CAN MAKE. scary....just look at your audience if they rather see cut outs what kind of personality would they have. soul d less for money

I was gonna say yes, but I don't think anything can ever replace humans. if you don't have human actors, you will have humans making animated actors, and a team of geeks behind a computer don't have the same sort of skills an actor may have.

i've played a few computer games where they try to make it like a movie, and the characters are always horrible actors. :)

personally i think this whole replacement thing is bullshit. and you wouldn't necessarily be getting rid of an actor...doesn't someone still need to supply the voice for the cgi character?

you would still need voice actors right? Or would that be replaced by a computer voice: "All of your base are belong to us"

How inconvenient would that be. You cant give a computer a heart- and plus, you would need voice actors.

And we all know how awful those can be (cough*gary shandling*cough)

Anyone ever see S1M0NE? I'd never heard of it untill I saw it on a plane. Good movie.

It deals exactly with this topic beeing discussed.
An star created entirly in GCI .. all goes fine untill the star stops making appearances and her dissapearance begins to raise questions.

Good point, Mikko. It was a fun watch. It was also kind of nice to see Pacino not going overboard for a change.

When has Pacino gone overboard with anything?

Not sure...I gotta watch simone...

Oh but about using computers, wouldnt that take away the fun from filmmaking altogether? I mean the whole reason why many of us(me at least) do this is because its real fun to get together some of your friends, and just tell a story with film. Not to mention the sense of satisfaction and pride you get when you make something that entertains someone

Does anyone forsee a time WAAAY off in the future when actors could be replaced by their digital counterparts? I'm thinking in terms of the cgi artform to date with the characters in Final Fantasy etc. I can see the software and technique going in that direction...Of course, I see all kinds of strange stuff.

Yes I can see this happening and for one very simple reason which I've never really seen discussed before.

The future of movies above and beyond anything we know is true 3D, in which we can walk around our stars and watch a movie as if standing in the same room (Think holodeck ala StarTrek).

For this reason alone the only viable way of doing it for a reasonable budget is using CGI.

However the future stars will be those who can recreate what we are seeing the best. Think Andy Sirkis... He's best known for two roles in which we never see his actual face (Gollum & Kong). People like him will still be the stars we go to watch in the movies and of course will be a vastly different idea of what we today consider to be a movie.

Whether this occurs even in the next 100 years is beyond me... even though i'm obviously dead brainy and been learnt proper at school isn't it :)

And while we're at it, let's get rid of those pesky musicians and singers. Artists, who needs them. We can allow computers to generate our art. Throw a few key phrases into a piece of software and voila, out comes a novel.

Personally, I just believe the human desire for art on all levels is just not going to accept this. Wouldn't it be a sad day if we did.

Hey guys the world is going to end, because I just bought a new keyboard. Unfortuantly the more you pay for a keyboard doesn't improve my poor grammar and spelling. (like an HVX wont make uwe boll a good filmmaker, like CGI wont make a better story) :)
