No actors required

Does anyone forsee a time WAAAY off in the future when actors could be replaced by their digital counterparts? I'm thinking in terms of the cgi artform to date with the characters in Final Fantasy etc. I can see the software and technique going in that direction...Of course, I see all kinds of strange stuff.

It'd be sort of pointless in my opinion. Why hire 15 people to animate one person. When you can hire one person to be the.. person?

Yes, now it takes 15 people but I think it's possible to whittle that down to one if the trend continues, but you may be right.

To quote Griffin Mill (The Player) "I was just thinking what an interesting concept it is to eliminate the writer from the artistic process. If we could just get rid of these actors and directors, maybe we've got something here. "

Sorry...sarcasm....:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Why would you WANT to get rid of actors? Or writers or directors for that matter?

Blaine - it seems your flight patterns need an altitude adjustment. Radar doesn't seem to be picking anything up. Are you flying the Stealth bomber tonight? :)

I think if you can pay less for one or a team of cgi artists to create a character than the overall dollar value of using a real person, money would dictate the outcome provided of course the two were equivelent.

The public LOVES their stars. That's why they command so much. If no one went to their movies, the bottom would drop out.

i think it all depends on how real they can make them look. if a studio owns the image of an icon they will be the ones charging 50mil for that image to be used and not paying brad or tom etc... i can see it happen in the future.. but pretty far off.. maybe a 50 years... and by then who knows what entertainment will be.

The stars would now become the cgi artists perhaps.

Seriously, I don't really see CGI replacing human actors. But I think it has a great place in creating "alien" life forms. I would really love to see The Mote In God's Eye made into a movie, now with the advances in CGI. Back in the 80s when I originally read it, they would have had to use puppets and that woulda sucked pond water.

are video games more popular than movies yet? kids and adults buy them more than records now. i think we could see this happen in the game industry. someone should open a cinema where everyone comes in and partakes in a game/movie with an unlimited number of outcomes.

Yeah, but who gets to control it? Is it really any fun just WATCHING a video game? Just asking since I'm not a gamer.
