GH2 No 25p possible in GH2 hack

That's it, pal users - definitive word form Vitaliy that we're never going to have a native 25p option on the GH2. Got to his personal view website and check the 25p topic. I have to say, I'm gutted..
 
yea - same here - 50i is possible but then there's the conversion. I shoot 25p on a number of GH13's and don't want to give that up
 
Very sad news for all pal users... So now, all we have is a good 720p50 mode. 1080p24 is beautiful but unusable in "light" post-production... Too bad really... End of a dream. :(
 
Well looks like I will be keeping my GH13 then.....no GH2 25P - no sale for me.

Anyway the 100 Mbs Max Patch is working wonderfully since V2 was released.....the IQ is excellent but the improved high ISO performance of the GH2 sensor would have tempted me to upgrade if 25P was an option.

Panasonic = Epic Fail.....why they culled a Full HD PAL Psf / progressive option from the GH2 feature set is beyond me....insanity.

Hopefully Nikon release the upcoming D400 with 25P frame rate, manual exposure control, a good codec and a decent audio subsystem....if they do that I will but one in a heartbeat as the GH series are poor photographic tools anyway IMO.

You might as well call it 540P which is what a straight de-interlace is....you are essentially throwing out half the vertical resolution.

You can recover some of the resolution by motion estimation or pixel tracking algorithms like those found in Twixtor etc but it is a PITA and hardly worth the time it takes to do.

does it mean though that if i were an NTSC user and check the stalin hack PAL>NTSC that I would would get a 108024p om a 601 wrap? thanks

can i therefore check pal>ntsc and expect stalin hack to convert my pal version to ntsc territory, meaning 1080/24p in 601?

Without wishing to be overly negative, that sounds pretty final to me.
 
It's a huge disappointment to users like us but it may have been in Panasonic's best interests - they know the market they're aiming at, they know what products are in the pipeline. while it certainly doesn't hurt creating discussion and putting pressure on them - we may only be a very small part of the market.

on the other hand it may just have been utter stupidity :-)
 
do you guys really hate transcoding that much? I thought the native MTS files are not efficient for editing? At least not on my system... I always transcode to cineform and remove the pulldown in one simple step.
