Nikon DSLR recommendations

I want to buy a Nikon DSLR and need recommendations on which one to buy.

I currently own 3 prime lenses; 28mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.2, 105mm f/2.8...I use these for my 35mm depth of field adapter.

I'd like a DSLR to use them with, but not sure which one to buy. I'm not looking to splash out a lot of money, so something at a reasonable price would be nice.

Also, I'm not concerned about video recording, I want the camera primarily to take good quality still images.

Cheers

The D90 is great, currently takes better pictures than the D300.

I would also recommend you to wait a few months if you can, as the replacement D300 and D700 is supposed to come out this year. (Supposed to)

But if the D90 is the only one of these in your price range, get that. It's an awesome camera for stills.

You might want to wait a few weeks. It could even mean a price cut or a rebate for the D90 or D300.

But if you need it now the D90 for the money is a very good camera

Hmmm, I guess I'll wait a bit since theres no immediate rush. So the possibility of a new and cheaper DSLR might be coming out?

You can find some really great Nikons on sale right now on ebay, craigslist, etc. I'm selling both my D200 (fantastic camera, older model, but still professional grade) and my D90... I'm waiting for the 300s, but that being said, I know a lot of people like me are dumping their older #1 & #2 cameras for something that's coming out like the GH1 or 300s etc. My advice would be to pick an older pro camera up second hand, you're getting great image quality, you don't need the video and you're really getting a steal price-wise on something that a few years back was a couple grand.

My lenses are all AI and AI-S..I'm reading they're not comptable with the D90.

Is this true?

Yeah I was just reading about the D3000. I'll probably wait for that camera....but it looks like that isn't compatible with AI and AI-S lenses either.

the metering is turned off when you attach a manual lens. not only the auto function, it's completely disabled. you have to set exposure manually by eye or histogram.

Will it be too much of a hassle to constantly set exposure by eye? If so, any other DSLRs that would be better with my AI and AI-S lenses?

As far as I know the Nikon D200 can meter separate from Manual lenses (AI and AI-S).

See this link for some discussion.

So to keep it simple, which Nikon DSLR should I purchase? I'd like the camera to be to professional standards, compatible with AI and AI-S and I'm not bothered about video recording at all.
