Nexto Drive with p2 slot ... SOON !

Hi everyone! So as to the posts regarding the NSV2500:

the $1500 price we were quoting was based on a 500 gig HD enclosed. Since, hopefully, we will see hard drive pricing lower between now and July the street price is not decided.

So, the final pricing actually went up 25% rather than down as suggested here.

Interesting in a rescession.

I have to say that, for $2K, the P2 adapter looks a bit kludgey. Seems to kind of hang off the side of the device. Any concerns you have with the long term durability of the device as far as this adapter is concerned? Is it actually more robust than it looks?

Ohh my God that looks so amateur. Great functionality but I'll wait till it comes with an inbuilt P2 slot. That setup is just asking for trouble...

D

Yeah, I'm with you on that.
I'm a buyer too when/if there is actually a slot for the P2 incorporated into the product.

Perhaps, but why the earlier statement about pricing?

Not sure what you mean. People say this thing is expensive. It is. People say it looks cheap. I can tell you it is not. So to me, and my workflow, it was worth what I paid for it.

As for waiting for it to have a P2 slot built-in, I wouldn't wait for too long. I don't have any kind of relationship with Nexto, but my sense is that the P2 adapter is all you're going to see from them, paired with this device, especially given the direction expansion card storage is going these days, towards ExpressCard (except Apple) and away from PCMCIA.

Also, I think from an engineering standpoint, perhaps adapting PCMCIA to ExpressCard (as with the P2 Adapter) is possible, where adapting ExpressCard to PCMCIA could be much harder. I would guess that Nexto tried to make a product that could cover both markets, knowing one of them would have to use an adapter, and they chose ExpressCard likely because of some combination of ease/cost/popularity. But again, these are just my thoughts.

I also wouldn't look at this as a device created around the SxS/P2 workflow. While you can preview clips from both, it is primarily an offload device and a raw-footage backup solution (in my opinion).

This is what I mean.

Suggested at $1500 and the thought it would be lower, and it comes out at $500 higher.

Just a little question: Can you playback all formats the HPX 300/01/02 can record? AVC-i 100, varable framerates etc.? PAL/NTSC?

Man, it sure would have been nice if they'd gone with a full-size PCMCIA slot and included one of these instead:

That'd be pretty much 100% kludge-free, a lot more elegant, and at least as useful.

I recently saw NextoDI Drive NV2500 at use somewhewre as stand alone config with 500GB internal. Now my querry -

When internal drive 500GB is full then can we connect an external drive to nextoDI in usb mode to have data directly dumped form P2 card to external drive thru NextoDI even if the internal drive is full.

Someone confused me that the NextoDI wil only allow mirroring of the internal drive to external so effectively what ever we need to copy an & should only be copied to inernal drive of NextoDI

All i m left is amusing as what wil be done 7 how ???

Sure would be nice to have an internal slot p2 card size so there wouldn't be the gangly adapter hanging out of the express card slot. If Nexto builds one of these boxes with an internal slot for P2 cards , I think I'm in for one.

the P 2 card adapter definitely does not look pretty. I have some concerns about the card hanging way off the reader. I'd be much happier with it tucked inside as it would present less potential for accidents.
