Hey, Haakon, how come you never go after "should of" and "would of"?
Believe me, if I "went after" every post that contained a grammatical or spelling error, I'd have more posts than Barry!

Don't get me wrong. I don't aspire to be any kind of "literature police," and I'm the first to admit that I mistakes all the time. I'm just always surprised that more people don't seem to read over what they write before submitting it to the world, because how you write and how you speak has a large influence over how others perceive you (for better or worse). You may not think about it much, but it's true.

The your/you're thing seems to bother me the most because for one, they are completely different words with different meanings that cannot be interchanged. They don't even sound the same if you're pronouncing the words correctly. That's a lot different to me than someone who writes something like "Oh, and BTW..." because that's obviously just lazy internet shorthand and "BTW" doesn't mean anything else. I would wager to guess that most people who use "your" in place of "you're" aren't doing it intentionally to save precious keystroke energy. Another reason is that I have increasingly seen those kinds of "lazy" mistakes creep their way into general use - the more people use them in public outlets like these, the more people become "desensitized" to the error. I bought a CD about a week ago and one of the song titles is "What Your Doin' To Me." Come on, that's just terrible!

Apostrophes are another huge example of this... you see things like "CD's for sale!" all the time. Over the holidays, I couldn't believe how many "Buy your Christmas tree's here!" signs I saw.

I often hear retorts like "this is just the internet, not a college essay" or something similar, but that kind of comment seems so silly to me. Does that mean the only time you care about presenting yourself to others is when you're forced to try to earn a grade? Personally, I care a lot more about how my peers and fellow company think of me than I do about teachers or strangers.

Anyway, I made that post mostly because the thread subject was about the massive shipping delays and I had a clever way to work that into my sarcastic grammar lesson. :) I wasn't trying to pick on poor ol' Prodigi!

Thanks Rush... I was hoping I'd get ours in time to consider it a birthday present (one that cost me a lot of money), but we'll keep waiting...

Anytime sir. I was hoping to have finished a project by now myself, but I need two cameras for it, so I will have to wait as well... Presently, I am doing all the interviews and instructional portions, but the meat of the project, the 1st section, will have to wait.

I don't get my own until the list is fulfilled, but I get an employee discount on renting an HVX when they are not being used by legitimate customers.

Oh, I don't get you wrong, it gives me a warm glow! I'm often tempted to do the same, but have held back. However, if everyone agrees not to get P.O.'d about such corrections, we can all pitch in and help improve everyone's presentation.

It would be a lot more productive than debating when the next shipment will be...

Haakon, ullanta, have you ever read Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss? Check it out between filming, an enjoyable way to look at the state of the English language today - the author hates bad punctuation and the like even more than anyone I know or have heard of. Maybe even more than Haakon does!

Oh yes. Fantastic book. I think it should be required reading for anyone that's human and plans to communicate in English. But that's just me.

good point - i'm doing a promo video for a hospital (my first corporate gig) and just went through all my emails to see if there were any "your" vs. "you're" and to double-check spelling/grammer... those emails went to the CEO, CFO, and the marketing director.

Panasonic sucks............ seriously...... sucks.....

And this is the sort of comment that keeps me from posting more frequently on this board. To release exact numbers is not anything that Panasonic would do. Why would we tell the competition this sort of vital information. You seem to forget that this is not a quiet conversation being held on a person to person basis between us "friends." And then because I do not know you, I probably would not tell then. It is propietary information. Rush has made a post that says we are delivering more cameras this month, and we are.

And so once again I go back to just sitting in the background and wondering what ever happened to civility and respect as human qualities.

Best,

Jan

It's okay... you were the only person to actually take the time to make the video files viewable for the rest of us, so I'm grateful. Just don't let it happen again!!

Haha, j/k

P.S. - Grammar has no "e" ;)

I'm sorry you have to read those kinds of posts, Jan. I think the fact that we're all conversing over the internet... where people can hide behind screen names and say whatever they want... well, it makes some people feel like they can cross any line they feel. I am sure you know, however, that there is an unbelievable amount of respect for you on these forums, and we know that the low shipping numbers are in no way directly related to anything you've done.

I think more than anything, there are a lot of anxious people who can't wait to get their hands on the camera. I must say, the newest footage I've seen has really restored my faith in just what the HVX is capable of.

No, but it looks good. I'll check it out, thanks!

I don't think Panasonic has to announce the total number of units shipped, but it would be nice that they told each individual dealer how many they were getting.

That way when I call my dealer I don't hear: "well, we are getting some the end of Februrary, but it might not be enough to get to you, we just don't know".

I don't ask for the numbers or info to be public, but when my dealer is in the dark about all of this, it just really adds to the frustration.

It may not be fair to the dealers either from a dealer's perspective. If the dealers knew how many they were getting, dealers could woo customers from other dealers. That's not fair to the dealers. I thought differently months ago, but I can see how unfair it would be to the dealers themselves. I think all the dealers will be getting cameras...some more and some less.

I'm getting mine from EVS, even if another company gets a ton of them, which is unlikely. I'm just saying that I'm committed to EVS, and they are committed to me.

Frankly if they did know, they probably would cover it with an I don't know. Things could go wrong, there is always QC, stateside. It just isn't the way this business works. I have been working supply side for 30+ years and no one ever knows for sure until they have them in their hot little hands. I have worked for a couple of dealers and we knew but we also knew that things can change so until we had them, we didn't say. I am not in the allocation part of the chain, and I am not saying that they already know, I am just saying that if they did, the safer route would be to say I don't know.

Best,

Jan

AS someone who has paid in full in 2005 and patiently waits while my money is out there somewhere, I can appreciate the position of Panasonic. This is after all a NEW product roll out, and it perhaps was ambitious to get the first shipment out by the end of the year. They did ship in LIMITED quantity. I do understand that it is very difficult to pinpoint exact timetables, and unwise (given our tendency to hold you to even the slightest hint) to promise anything. I know that we will not know for sure until we get our shipping #s. Perhaps Panasonic isn't all that bad for not announcing to the public what they themselves do not know. I just wish I had a window. My Dealer has me #1 on his list, and he said he is very confident I will have it by the end of the month, but lets face it - The Dealers don't know. As I have already PAID I do think I should have a higher priority in the knowledge pipeline. Im just looking for a window, an update, or a status report. Panasonic does NOT Suck - But WAITING while your money cant work for you does SUCK-

HAAKON, YOU RIGTH...

I´M A FORAING GUY HERE, AS YOU KNOW I´M FROM MEXICO, I LIVE IN MEXICO ACCTUALLY, AND I USED TO LERN ALOT OF ENGLISH BY PLACES LIKE THIS...

SO, IF YOU GUYS SPELL BAD SOME WORD, OR USE GRAMMAR WRONG, I´LL LERN EXACTLY THE SAME MISTAKE FROM YOU, AND WELL, I KNOW.. IS NOT IN YOUR BUSINESS, BUT, I KNOW ABOUT ALL THAT AMERICAN PROUD, THAT IN FACT I ADMIRE OF YOU GUYS, AND I KNOW THAT YOU JUST CAN DOING BETTER!!

IF IN SOME WAY MY APARENCE HERE HELPS ABOUT ENFROCING YOU TO TAKE CARE ABOUT YOUR GRAMMAR, I´LL BE PLACED TO RECIVE CORRECTIONS AND COMMENTS ABOUT MY MISTAKES AND MAYBE SOME OTHER AMERICAN OR FORAING WOULD LERN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT IT ENGLISH.

THANKS .

FERNANDO

hahaha... you see??.. now you are thinking about it!!!.. is like these ALIAS
missions... breaking in to Panasonic´s Bullding in Japan... and go back with the camaras save in Los Angeles... lol

The thing is.. i think that XL2 is better than DVX100 for me, because i shoot at 16:9,
so, thats why im thinking about XL2 over DVX...

but is a shame wasting this opportunity of shooting this documental about Puebla City, because everybody here (and tourists too) would get impress with these HD footage from HVX, we want to promove Panasonic tech. here because is very usefull for us in marketing terms. Peaple get impress with all this HD stuff, like going to iMAX theaters (and i know there is alot of diference, but regular peaple just take care about hi-tech stuffs and that kind of atracctions, so.. )

and the main target of this proyect is showing this documentary for the first time at 16th April (475th aniversary of Puebla City) so... we just CAN´T wait.. =(
