F5: NEW Sony F5 Bundle Includes a7SII Body, Viewfinder, Shoulder Pad, & More

16-bit only. Around 3:1 compression. No adjustable ratio, and it's been asked for a while now. Hopefully Sony delivers.

Dennis, so is there any difference between f55 and f5 in terms of raw? Except obvious lower base iso.

People going crazy about Raven but with that deal you can get a terrfic, reliable raw camera that has everything you need just right there built in (proper audio for example) for a similar price once you'll add up all the pieces to Red.

F5 and F55 raw to the AXS-R5 are the identical 16-bit linear Raw in MXF wrapper. F55 as you point out is lower native ISO owing to global shutter. And the big thing about the F55 is the wider color gamut, equivalent to the F65.

Raven is definitely a challenge at its price point, even with the added cost of accessories. In part in boils down to which workflow you prefer and which look you prefer.

Thanks! I heard that F55 has that wider color gamut but isn't that F5/FS7 S-gamut3.cine super wide? What gamut is in F55?

Well true, that you can chose your poison, but if price would be equal (with all additional pieces to Red) I would go Sony route. Audio, super 35, all the lens mounts you want etc. Much more flexible camera.

What gamut is in F55?

SGamut3. But SGamut3 is also available in the FS7/F5 too!

We don't know is just how much wider the gamut is in the F55 than the other cams because Sony doesn't publish that data. If they aren't publishing these data you can bet your life it ain't much.

To anatusa: I'm not sure if the promo exists in Europe. I'm only given the information for the Sony USA promos. You can see a screen shot of the official promo announcement from Sony attached in this post.

nope, spoke to CVP eu no deal like that in europe. so u r right its USA promo only. but funny thing i checked all the website i could find in google and have not seen that deal posted anywhere else in usa ..... came to the conclusion maybe its a secret promo :-). Anyway, i wonder if there is such thing as a world wide warranty? maybe for some extra, so that if u bought it in the usa , u could repair it in eu?

right now this is by far the best option for anyone looking for raw.....proven, great options, great image....
maybe the ursa 4.6 sensor will actually live up to its promise but regardless, in terms of production and professional use, the F5 is a workhorse....and regardless of actual IQ BM just isn't there yet....Raven is a concept right now and if anyone thinks it will be as good or better then F5 might be in for a surprise....right now the F5 competes against the full dragon on a daily basis....people have their reasons to choose one over the other, mainly esthetics and red will never let Raven comPete with dragon directly...which is what the F5 is doing right now....
i love the FS7 and think it is one of the best cameras out there but I don't look at it as a raw camera....it's a perfect quick cam with an amazing internal codec....the adapter with external recorder does not make much sense to me...that is what the F5 is for ....and if you shoot raw might as well get 16 bit out of it....
the more I think about this deal the better it gets....wish I could make it work but I like my FS7 too much to get rid of it and both are just not realistic right now for me....

Second cam, not a replacement to fs7 and you're set to everything. This plus 6 Sony prime lenses.
Man, Sony is on fire recently.

It is the sensor array itself in the F55 and F65. Somewhere Sony did publish a comparison. Will try to look for it.

In terms of RAW, no there is no difference except the base ISO as you mentioned.

Other differences between the F5/F55 are:

- silver FZ mount ring
- global shutter on F55
- 1250 base ISO vs 2000 ISO
- 4K internal comes with F55, is upgrade on F5
- Supports Sony CA-4000 4K Live Fiber Adapter
- CFA on F55 and F65 is wider than film according to Sony. The CFA on F5 and lower is more limited to "rec709" color space. Currently it's mostly only evident if shooting specific types of lights, RGB, neon, etc.. day to day you're not going to really see any major difference and also remember that all our displays are mostly limited in colours that can be seen anyways.

How bayer is different than the Q67 sensor in the F65:

A7RII is almost a Q67, with 15 MPX into 4K. Q67 ought to be in the F5 replacement, but with a faster readout to eliminate the rolling shutter.

F55 replacement would then have to aim for full RGB with 26.7 MPX.

F65 Full RGB center crop off a Medium Format (Pentax 645D) sensor?

Edit : it just dawned on me that Q67 stands for Quality Two Thirds. Hah!

Does the f5 record 10 bit prores to the shogun? I assume the internal 4K is 8-bit, eh?

Only thing that really bothers me about the f5 is the sxs media.

The F5 has 10-bit output on both the HD-SDI and HDMI ports, so yep, up to 10-bit ProRes4444 to an external recorder like the Shogun. Internal 4k on the F5 is 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC, 4k raw on the F5 is 16-bit with 3:1 compression.

Much more affordable than SXS cards, is using XQD cards with an SXS adaptor. I have three 64GB XQDs that I use with my F5, and just leave each one permanently in it's SXS adaptor (they only cost $30 each). Media cost is virtually the same as the FS7 that way.

10-bit internal? Very nice. 16-bit raw sounds amazing but the raw module is an extra 5 grand , right?

Good idea about xqd. How much 4K recording could a 64gb card hold?

As far as HD goes, what does the f5 shoot internal? 10-bit? 12-bit?

And is rolling shutter ok? Quite an enticing offer

The AXS-R5 recorder and media aren't cheap. But show up fairly regularly second hand (barely used) and go for a great price. That's how I got mine, and it's worth every penny.

A 64gb card gives you a little over 30 minutes of 4k XAVC recording.

In HD, the F5(5) give you 50Mbps 8-bit MPEG2 4:2:2, 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC, 10-bit 4:4:4 SR444 (which is crazy good), 10-bit 4:2:2 SR422, and with the optional ProRes board you can have 12-bit ProRes4444... so, a LOT of options! HD downsampled from the 4k sensor is super sharp, SR444 in particular is the most impressive 1080p codec I've seen outside of uncompressed video.

Rolling shutter readout is excellent, certainly seems pretty close to par with Red Dragon and Alexa readout in my experience (i.e. you only really see artifacts when pushed to the limit).

Before I got my fs7 I kept an eye on the raw back for the f5, they usually go for about 3000$.... With this offer prices might go up a bit though:)
