Interesting specs, but a hefty price tag. With so many pro level stills cams already out there, I can't think who this camera is aimed at, dentists?
for dentists it is missing design award and German traditional brand name. And it doesn't hit the 5-digit price tag.
To assume it does hit all specs in workaday life with the fast AF and continuous shooting it could be a great tool for sports, action and documentation professional photographers
It's a direct competitor to the 1DX Mark II and D5, which are $6K, $6500 -- so it might be a bargain for some.
I could see photographers loving it, but for video use it's a rip-off. (And of course not meant for it.)
True.
Also true. I did consider sports photographers, as the autofocus look special, but most sports photographers are heavily invested in glass, and I can't see them slapping a lens adapter on the end of 800mm Canon/Nikon just to hook it up to a Sony.
I feel personally betrayed as well.5D Mark IV didn't get that big update today (besides C-Log) in Canon's announcement and CR is taking a lot of heat for it, ha.
I feel personally betrayed as well.
But that's how these deals usually work. A $2,000 camera (GH-5) has it. A $4,500 camera does not. As Ned says above, that's too many steps back.
Now we can sit back and wait for the A9R and A9S to confuse us even further in which camera to get.
The deal-making just makes no sense at all. This is just like how the 1DX Mark II didn't get C-Log yesterday.
Sorry, makes no sense.
a7II - a7S - a7RII - a7SII - a6300 - a6500 - a99II --> a mixture of still/video feature-filled cameras and they all have S-Log2 or S-Log3 (or both).
And this new a9 all of a sudden doesn't?
A new precedent has been set. It could very well be a hat tip to someone else, but it's just not right.
Nothing else is different on the video side from any of the other cameras and a $4500 camera should not have this feature missing. I don't care what it's meant for.
I'm not buying it; I just didn't expect Sony to do this. Canon definitely, but not Sony.
You don't have to tell me that. (but you can, so we can commiserate together)... A new precedent has been set. It could very well be a hat tip to someone else, but it's just not right...
