NEW ptool - GOP1 and more than 85mbps average avchd!

Can you post any footage?

I will try to do this next day. Now i have just 56kb internet speed. Today i have made about 6gb footages and need to tell you - if you will try this settings with heavy outdoor, just make a bit underexposed scene and you get lower bitrate without card errors. I think to buy another SD card for this patch.

I have the Sandisk Extreme class 10 card. I don't think it would be that. I get an Automatic lock up as soon as I hit record on any situation, even with the lens cap on.

Oh, i am sorry, last question was not adressed for me....
I do not know where is the problem. My transcend is slower than your card. Today i shoot a lot of video use settings which i posted above, i just change Video Bitrate FHD/SH to 88000000. At very detailed indoor scenes with 60mbps average and 85mbps max i do not get any errors. Outdoor with close aperture, grass and sunlight gave me card errors everytime after few seconds of shooting but do not damage footage an do not freeze camera. It is impossible that my camera is better than other cameras. With the lense cup on i have card error every time to. I feel that GOP1 is very perspective direction. May be some greate minds like lpowell and other can make some good patch from this.
Guys, sorry for my english...

This is screenshots of stream parser. First two screens is a stable situation and bitrate for my card. It is small tree at the wind. Second two is at the edge of card possibilities. Cat at grass.

I'm able to record with these settings for a few seconds if I'm -.3 ev on my Patriot LX cards. I need to get a faster card to test. Also using LA7200 to lessen detail.

Average bitrate drops to 18mb when changing GOP to 6, no matter the shutter speed. It looks like an unhacked GH1. Going to try another card at GOP1

EDIT 2:

You can achieve longer record times with more underexposure.

I don't get it, What version of ptool are you using for this?

Edit: I'm just an idiot. I didn't have the latest version of Ptool! Ahhhh. I'll try it out when I get the chance.

So what? Did you try it with your card at outdoor? It is interesting for me. Today i use this patch to shootig home party and i get crazy quality result without any card errors on my transcend. Very smooth motion and very detailed video. Outdoor scenes are stable only with wide aperture and faderND filter.

Wow!!! lpowell, lpowell,lpowell... his patch are amazing, his advertising company is powerful but it seems that i make something special. Something greate!!! Vitalys option increasing buffer is gave me to make my footage like more expensive analogue. It is better than any options. It is realy greate. Try it with faster card and you fill all power of this patch. Wow, it is the GOP1!!!

Telkitachki, which lpowell patch you talking about? his last one?because its set to gop15 as i understand.,you saying you tried his setting with the gop1?thanks

I played with this patch today indoors with 20mm plus a wide converter on. I followed my grands around the house running and the video looks stellar and the camera never complained. One of the video clips has 61Mbps rate. It uses a lot of file space, and I am not sure it is better. Similar video clip with the GH2 Cinema 24h shows similar quality at 21.4Mbps, so perhaps I am not really stressing the hack with what I am filming. The good news is that it works and did not fail with my test... Al

I use a patch I tinkered up that is GOP 2 at 116000000 for FHD 1080 24p. I get occasional lock ups on wide shots f5.6 and above with highly detailed scenes. I also get NO MUD and crystal clear motion. I use the GH13 as a Red B camera for commercials. I'm not doing "One Off" stuff so I couldn't care less about a few lock ups that only mean I need to shoot another take or two. I'm all for maxing out the data we can get from this amazing little camera. I need stellar footage alot more than I need another average performing "stable" camera.

I love quality GOP2 and i use it for 4 month, but sometimes it loose P-frames. File looks good, but when you caming home you see that file loose some P-frames (192bit P-frame). It is only one problem of GOP2 for me, and now, with GOP1, it is not problem. Another one problem of GOP2 is loosing file when you get camera error. With my new setting file not damages when you get error and camera is not lock, and you do not need swich off your battery to unfreeze camera. It is very stable settings and all i need is taste it with fast SDcard to know - could it be total stable.

Quality does indeed look very good on this patch, but I got a lockup on my very first clip using a Helios 44-2 at f/2 which is far from the sharpest/widest lens I've got. I do find it very interesting that this patch still produces a useable movie up until the failure point, unlike most of the other ones I've tried. The shot that locked up was at 1/640 on the shutter (no ND on the lens at the moment) so perhaps that was a factor - I tried the shot again at 1/50 and stopped down to f/8 and didn't have the same issue, although the shot was a bit different as well. Sorry, not scientific in the least. I'm leaving the patch on for now and will go do some more testing with it, keeping the shutter at 1/50 and seeing what I get. Thanks :)

I gave this a go this morning. The great thing about the hack is that you can just add it and then revert if you're not happy with it. I am using a Sandisk Extreme 16Gb Class 10 card. It says 30 MB/s on it. I got lock ups on a few shots and I didn't really push it at all. Funny thing was I did notice a bit of mud. But it was by no means an exhaustive test. I can confirm the interesting fact that you don't lose the entire movie. Also what I don't think was pointed out in the thread was you can't playback in camera although I may have missed something.

I have therefore reverted to the 40MB/s reliability patch, the lastest revision for 3.55d Ptool and this seems super solid. Shot deep focus on a mess of branches and no lock up. Also picture quality is outstanding, almost better than the GH2 for graduated out of focus stuff, when using the 17mb codecs in that camera. Roll on the GH2 patch I say. Thanks to Lpowell for the exhaustive work on that. For me it's about a balance between reliability and quality. I shoot kids footy games so it's a one shot deal, no second chances. Therefore reliability is a factor for me.

Here's the link to the 40MB/s Reliability latest version.

Using a GH17 from B&H bought April 2011

I just tried short clip inside a dark room and it didn't cut out until I stopped recording after about 1.5 minutes. I then opened the clip with mediainfo and the "bits/(pixel*frame)" was .445 which compared to my other clips prior with the blackoutpowell 24p native were around .278 to around .310 I don't really know if this is significant but it may be that there is more color info in these settings.

The clip looked fine though, but I will have to do a side by side test with my 2 gh17s maybe tomorrow to see if there are significant differences visually than the blackout powell native 24p as is.

Thanks for posting this telkitachki as it does seem more interesting to examine to me now since I was able to get something recorded with it which is more than I thought would happen!

UPDATE: Tried this morning again in normal daylight and the settings would not even record 1 second in FHD unless I underexposed 3 clicks on the dial and used dynamic choice. I then
turned it to 60p and it would record, so looks like these settings won't be at all reliable for FHD and maybe not even on moving 60p as the 60p I just tried was a non moving
shot from a tripod looking out my window. I am using 45mb/s sandisk cards and I tried on 2 of them with same results, not able to get anything on FHD in normal conditions.

UPDATE 2: Just tried going outside and trying again, got same results, no filming at all on fhd. Card allowed some 60p footage between 1000 and 4000 shutter speed and took it
inside to look at it, did not look good at all. I think I am now giving up on these settings for now and going back to blackoutpowell Native 24p settings which I have had very
nice results from in FHD.

So these experimental settings might work for something but I don't have the time now to spend figuring out what it may be as I have not had good enough results to keep trying anymore.

UPDATE 3: Ok well I put back the blackout powell 24p native and tried shooting from the same position outside again and although it didn't lock up instantly on FHD, it did give an
error within about 10 seconds, was a wide shot of trees. Once I zoomed in it allowed me to shoot at fhd and it didn't give an error. And I could shoot the wide shot at 60p without an error, so maybe I just was shooting something
that only the reliable patch could do at FHD anyways, not the BPn or the Telkitachki settings.
