New Panasonic 4K 60P Camcorder HC-X1000

White flag. I misspoke and was trying to make the point that we should respond to the camera, and somehow my dsylexia resulted in me leaving out the words "if it were" also in the consumer division. Consumer, prosumer, pro are increasingly irrelevant terms as camera companies add features to consumer cams and leave out the same features on their procams. Like the higher 4k bit rate on the Sony AX100 than on the pro x70. If I mislead anyone I apologize. I just wanted to make the popint that The DVX200 was good no matter which division produced it. Just as the GH series was a good product from the consumer division.

BYW, I love the DVX200 and our nonprofit has two of them on order, with orders placed the day of the announcement. S

Sorry, Philip. I didn't mean to jump your case. I was just surprised of the possibility that Panasonic would consider the DVX200 as a consumer camera. Which it hasn't, of course.

The DVX100 was from the broadcast group. The confusion may arise from a product like the HC-X1000, which is every bit as "pro" as any other Panasonic handheld, but was released through the consumer division rather than the broadcast division, which would have seemed like a more natural fit.

Barry...

Do you think there's any reasonable chance they will release this (DVX200) in a m43 mount version?

Thanks....Tye

Absolutely not...at least this version. Spoke to them at Cinegear Expo on Saturday. DVX200 is coming from their Professional Broadcast Division. Camera is slated to be shipping in Oct.

Why did they release the X1000 thought the consumer division?

So does that officially make it a "Consumer Camcorder"? Does sound icky, plus the one year warranty.. 0.0

EDIT:
I'm considering getting this instead of the AC90, and the AC130 is not an option since it only does PH Mode 1080 30P and I want 60P but the AC160 is just too expensive. What will I be missing from the AC90 other than the warranty due to being a "Consumer Camera"?

I have heard nothing whatsoever to give me optimism that they would. I cannot fathom why they wouldn't, but ... so far, they have not expressed any interest in doing so.

If I'm not mistaken, the consumer division designed and produced the X1000 themselves. There is overlap now between the two companies, the dividing line is not as clear as it once was.

Pretty much nothing; the X1000 is basically a "super" AC90. Longer zoom range and 4K. The AC90 does 5.1 sound with its onboard mics, the X1000 only does stereo. Other than that, I can't think of anything offhand. AC90's a great camera, and less expensive, but the X1000 does more.

Warranty is 1 yr parts, 90 days labor. GH4 is 1 yr both parts & labor. Both from consumer division so why not the same warranty? I would generally stay away from grey market but with a 90 warranty I don't see much value in purchasing U.S.

What about colors? Does the AC90 have better color reproduction because it's using 3MOS or would the HC-X1000 still come out ontop at 1080P?

Also what about Shutter roll and the other common problems of CMOS sensors? Which one has less?

I'm purchasing from the only Official distributor in The Philippines directly. But Pro cameras are 3 year right?

I think Panasonic offers a warranty extension when you register a pro camera. I don't know if it's always been that way. It was when I bought the HMC150 & AC90. Without the extension the pro warranty is one year.

Just chatted with Panasonic and said that the extra 2 year on the warranty policy when you register has expired this May 1.

So one year for both.

90 days labor for HC-x1000 is what the U.S. version has. As for the 2 yr extension, looks like the now they are offering hefty rebates when you register. $750 for aj-px270. That 3 year warranty might come back with the DVX200.

Does anyone have any decent settings they can recommend for this camera? Out of curiosity I tried shooting a flat picture and it wasn't great. It seems the best thing to do is to achieve the look in camera (obviously...!). I'm shooting a wedding at the weekend so interested to hear what settings people have been using.

Well i must have been asleep when this thread was going on,i have been useing a FZ1000 for various types of filming especialy wildlife since last autumn,i always film and edit out to 4K.As far as PQ goes the FZ1000 has always given me good results but one downer has been wind even breeze movement even on my miller air tripod, its not the tripod the camera lens just moves in any wind on long focal lengths. Now i have a FX1000 on order and am a bit worried after reading through this thread,is the FX1000s PQ going to be at least as good as the FZ11000s and will the heavier weight of the camcorder going to give steadier footage.
One other thing the FZ1000s i zoom works in 4K mode, i doubt it is 4k resolution much after after leaving the optical zoom range but the camera does not have to be changed from MP4 4K to MP4 1920X180 to get the i zoom function like the X1000 does i presume.

No nomal mic input for my Rode mics,no slow motion record :(

Think most buying this camera would consider XLR inputs as "normal". You can buy an VXLR - Mono Mini-Jack to XLR Converter which is what I use with this camera for my RodeLink Wireless Filmmaker Kit.

Yes, no slow motion record, but as you may already know - if you shoot 60p and drop it into a 24p timeline you can get some very nice 40% slow motion. I actually prefer this to recording slow motion when filming wildlife because you're not locked into slow motion and can be selective about when you want to conform the regular motion to slow motion.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/RØDE-VXLR-3-5mm-Minijack-Adapter/dp/B000Y021NA would this one do,i need stereo audio at times,i have had camcorders in the past with XLR inputs but also normal 3.5 mic inputs,i never use 24P i prefer 25P they are both on my FZ1000 and 25p movement is best, also i nearly always edit and make 4K rendered films because watching great resolution on my 4k tv is what its all about for me,but as long as the adaptor shown or another more suitable works i can live without the slow motion, thank you for the help.
