FS7: New FS7 little brother?

Trying to resist the urge to jump in but i can't.

I run A7s on a gimbal at times which helps the rolling shutter but recording UHD is difficult (i'm running a cable to an off gimbal O7Q+). Car mounts IMHO don't work, the jello is just unmanagable and i've tried everything. I'm sensitive to jello, especially as i sometimes need to track and composite footage.

There is nothing wrong with the A7s sensor, just look at the stills. So take that same sensor and better hardware around it then perhaps we have a camera here.

So small form factor, A7s sensor, 4k on board at a decent quality and IBIS then that would interest me.

But then i love the A7s form factor, or rather i love a stills/video combo and i would still love an A7s II at some point.

I've recently stripped my 700 rig down to bare minimum with the O7Q and still find the 4K RAW quality off that blows me away at times, much more so than UHD of the A7s which is meh at the best of times and only when down sampled back to HD. The shadow and highlight handling just isn't as good as it can be...

But i'm definitely interested. I mean i've not bought a camera for a few months now. I must be getting old...

cheers
Paul

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'leaked' specs are completely wrong
I haven't seen any that claim to be leaks, everyone's speculating. And I'm sure even Creative Ventures are making **** up to draw attention to their site and hope they'll catch a few extra pre-orders that way...

waiting is short hope fs5 change that stupid kit lens on fs7 and gets the fujinon 16x back as optional choice,,hope there will be no change on S/Q.....guys sony should back to use quality in their lenses equal to XDCAM ghosts the EX1r and EX3..and thank you all best regards

Agreed. That's why I put 'leaked' in quotation marks & ended my previous post with 'Hmmmm...'

My interest had momentarily peaked when it was rumored it might get the FS7/F5/F55 sensor. With the latest rumors—consider it un-peaked.
But you can already get that. Just buy an FS7/F5/F55... If it's same sensor you'd only get a crappier version of the FS7, not very exciting if you ask me ;)

I agree, a new FF sensor would be something new and could potentially be a huge seller if the camera has 4K, 8 or ideally 10bit 4:2:2 internal recording.

If Sony tweek the a7S sensor or provide a new sensor with full frame readout with improved rolling shutter and other issues then this could be really special.
It all depends on what Sony include in the final specs, and the price.

For me the ideal camcorder would have;

FF Sensor (new A7SII sensor)
10bit 4:2:2 internally but at least 8bit 4:2:2 with 10bit output option.
Slog 3
Slow Mo similar to the RX10II with higher quality options.
Built in ND's
Side Handle
LCD / Loupe,
2 XLR's and direct audio control like the Sony xlr-k2m
1 x SDI
1 X HDMI
Timecode
USB 3
I'm sure there are a few other items I've forgotten but this would be perfect for me.

4,000-4,500 Euro (price including VAT)

You forgot cinematic colors and motion like Sony F65, Arri Alexa, all Blackmagic cameras, Digital Bolex and some others.

Yes, and since the silhouette looks (to me at least) like an FS7 with viewfinder and smaller lens. Maybe we will see a new lens in the FE cine style along with the new camera?
And if it's a FF camcorder, the 28-135 is pretty much a "must buy" to go with it, meaning Sony will shift quite a lot more of those. Makes perfect business sense!

there is no reason why it wouldn't be a FF camera. Where would they get a S35 sensor if not from the FS7/F5/F55?

All the logic in the world tells me - A7s in a camcorder body with 4k internal recording and XLR inputs. In a nutshell. This is what would be really ground breaking - the low-light performance of the 12MP FF chip (with S35 crop) not the same Fs7 sensor in a smaller body minus SDi/RAw/TC and side grip.

Although it will probably be a 15-16MP derivative of that 12Mp sensor of some sorts, but I am betting my bottom dollar on Full frame.

FF sensors are the best for digital photography but I'll take an optimized super 35 any day. I for one pray this is not FF. no need. If it is I won't be interested. Gotta man up; a man's man!

Not sure it makes sense to simply put the A7s sensor in a bigger box and keep the output pretty much the same....you can get the A7s for about 1700$ now so unless Sony provides better files I don't see how charging an extra 2500$ will get people excited....

There are quite a few sensors people would pay double or triple($5-10k) if they were in the body of a cinema camera instead of an SLR. Think built in ND's, ergonomics, processing, power and sound.

I don't think a FF sensor in a camcorder body is out of the question and must be possible !

Sony has done it before, three years ago, with the NEX-VG900.

FF sensors are the best for digital photography but I'll take an optimized super 35 any day.

Do you mean because full frame's focus is too shallow? I think it's just one f-stop away from Super 35. Close down 1 f-stop. Boom! Same depth of field.

No objection to the larger FF size IF everything else is equal. IF they make an fs7 sensor scaled up to FF then I'll be absolutely fine, I'll just shoot in s35 4K mode.

But things are never equal.

Having the a7s sensor comes with a bag full of downsides vs the 4k s35 in a video/cinema camera.

I reckon the A7S sensor is substantially less expensive to manufacture than the A7RII sensor but the A7RII sensor would probably be used in a pro product in the $15,000-$18,000 range and a likely F5 replacement .... and a C300 MKII main competitor. With gear prices collapsing, Sony just might want to challenge Canon in that segment too. Besides, F5 and F55 were announced three years ago and that's a pretty long time in the modern tech.

Sonyalpharumors.com just posted some specs from a source.

New Sony F cam Friday is S35, not FF. 4K internally, but 8 bit XAVC-L (note the L) 100 Mbit max. No HFR as far as I can tell, 30fps max in 4K. Looks like a baby FS7. Price will be between old FS700 and current FS7, likely $5,000-6,500 USD. Differentiation on FS7 is much better CODEC, higher frame rates (incl 60p 4K), option for RAW and ProRes, bigger build.

I'm surprised that it isn't 10 bit internal with those specs.

I would've thought a mini FS7 minus CineEI and the lack of HFR would've been a good compromise. If those specs are correct it doesn't really add much to the lineage unless there's something surprising yet to be announced.
