FS7: New FS7 little brother?

So, in order to shoot RAW on the FS7 I would be looking at about $9000-10,000 (FS7, I/O, adapter, cage).

I don't get this pursue for raw of some people. Of course images are beautiful but data wrangling with it is a nightmare. Anyway, if you tend to shoot almost entirely with raw then go for Mini (internal recording) if not then go for FS7.
The key advantage of FS7 is that it's extremely versatile and can handle any project that you'll throw at it.

Edit: And in CineEI with slog2/3 it's almost like raw anyway without being data hog.

Sony calls it the missing link. So what is missing link between FS700 and FS7?
They have in commons: e mount, S35, ND filters, viewfinder, internal HFR, SDI & HDMI out, XLR
Lets assume it won't change.

What's the difference? Codec, Cine mode / slog3, internal resolution, kit lens, price
what would be in between? Internal 4K XAVC-L up to 100mb/s, new 18-135 kit lens 4999$ / 5999$ kit
extra charge for RAW /slog3 firmware.

If they really target at the C100 it will be maybe 500$ less but I don't think so.
Sony still needs space for a price drop after 18 months.

My wild guess
:-)

i am with you on this....i think the greatest thing about the FS7 is the internal 4K....i can understand why one really needs the external box, V-lock, recorder hassle/weight/size if a client wants pro res.....but i don'e think raw is what the FS7 is for and i don't think this new FS will be any different....i think it's the opposite: great internal codec/quality for all people hassling with A7 (s/r/II) and external recorder....an alternative to that with better internal quality (then you can get on external recorder) for about the same price as both (A7 s/r/II and recorder) combined....canon C does not come close to raw and shoots everywhere...isn't it the most rented camera?

I think you are missing the point that it's the missing piece between A7S, FS700 and FS7. The really interesting point here is that they are including the A7S in an otherwise FS series line-up.

My dream for Sony's new FS camera: A cinema camera that actually has beautiful colors and motion (like F65, Alexa, Blackmagic cameras, Digital Bolex), pretty much the same specs as C100mk2 but with at least 2K and complete enough package so the price of the camera doesn't suddenly double because of all the accessories I have to get. I don't care about RAW. Mechanical shutter would be great.

Who knows but I can't imagine it being fixed lens, Sony wants to sell lenses. Look at the cameras in the teaser, all interchangeable emounts.

And I bet there will be raw out via the same XDCA, we're talking about Sony... the same people who made the ridiculous IFR5 interface for the FS700, they saw the mistake of giving raw out directly to the 7Q, not selling any IFR5's. This time around they made a new awkward box that you screw in to the back of a FS7, why? B/c they couldn't achieve it internally? B/c it's aesthetically pleasing? They did it to sell equipment. I think the raw situation is going to be like the F5/55, add the R5 and they both get raw and HFR; same here, add the XDCA and both FS cameras get raw. And they're paying AAPL for prores so they'll want to maximize XDCA sales.

And I would have guessed the same FS700 sensor or maybe even te F5 sensor for easy manufacture, but after seeing the teaser, then why did they include the A7S in there? This is confusing to me, would they use FF or even a new bsi sensor for the model lower than the FS7? Maybe they're suggesting the FSx is going to be like the A7S, except in a camcorder body? For sensitivity? That could distinguish its place in the market...

Y'all can stop sending me PMs asking about this new camera. I'm not talking. ;-)

Mitch, I'm guessing it's as torturous for you to know but not tell as it is for us to be in the dark.

Design looks exactly as a drawing of a C300 outline. FS7 without shoulder bottom/flush, rear EVF, top handle with LCD at the end, a narrow and tall design.

I expect a lighter/smaller version of the FS7 that more resembles the C100/300 ergonomics, a handheld camcorder.

1 -lacks the XDCA/RAW/240P/ProRes/V-Lock options
2 -lacks 4k 60p, tops at 120p at 1080p.
3 -lesser connections (SDI/TIMECODE/GENLOCK),
4 -Non-removable side handle with a different traditional design
5- Overall smaller 20-30% body with less buttons on the side
6- No shoulder designed back and not grip extension handle
7 -Everything else the same, NDs, same top handle+LCD apparently, E-mount, sensor, battery system, 4K HDMI, XLRs, S-Log, LUTs,

One thing I can't expect is media, they will keep XAVC-I probably (not going to limit is to 8bit, XAVC-L) so it's a matter of SDs ability to handle XAVC-I 4K, and if not, then it'll probably be XQD. Unless they do go with a maximum 8bit XAVC-Long gop flavour which I highly doubt as it's not their at-the-moment standard ALL-I codec, they'll just give it 4K XAVC-I to whichever media can handle it at 4k30p/HD120p, even if it's XQD, and for the budget conscious one XQD and shooting at 8bit XAVC-L, MPEG422 is an option for all.

It'll be something just more compact and stripped down that shoots the same XAVC 4K 24p image at the 5000$ mark, I expect the same sensor at this point of course.

That way, even the FS700 still has it's market for having the raw/240p/prores/sdi/gl/tc, the fs7 has it's market for all the features mentioned above, and this sits in the middle with highest-in-class value/features.

It will be a hit among all SLR/Mirrorless shooters wanting to step-up their business, heavily rivaling/damaging against the C100 MKII. Typical Sony.

Alister Chapman says: "It’s very cool, feature rich and I’m sure it will be popular."

Sounds like it checks many boxes. It also sounds like it's more likely to please than annoy (unless you own a higher end Sony perhaps and don't like cheaper, better cameras).

I am guessing 10bit 4:2:2 at least for 1080p (X70). 4K 10bit 4:2:2 XAVC-I existence is going to be determining whether its XQD or SD (SD cards if it goes x70/A7rII/AX100 way of XAVC-S 8bit 100mbps 4:2:0 4K, which I highly doubt they'll do that, but not 100% unlikely).

The 8bit 4K from the FS7 sensor looks great anyway so I have no problem with it if it reduces price and media cost.

Most likely, knowing Sony, wanting to popularize XQD and XAVC, it will have the fs7 sensor, XQD cards and 4K 10bit XAVC-I, just not higher than 30p, and HD at 120p.

I expect the FSx cam to give the FS7 owners the same feeling that F5/55 owners felt when the FS7 was announced. But the new FSx owners will get the same feeling of disappointment/frustration as FS7 owners when they look at the F5/55's waveforms and NR in CineEI etc i.e there will be something that stops the camera from being too good.

Thinking about Sony's game I think they scent the blood of Canon and be braver than they are generally accustomed to, the FSx will be the FS7 in Custom mode only with the same gammas and codec support but no CineEI and no extension until so no Prores or HFR, RAW etc etc.

If you've never used CineEI it's likely you won't miss it and the new FSx will be very popular indeed with the upshot of Canon will have a pile of unsold inventory in its channel. Had the FSx been released before I bought the FS7 I wouldn't have appreciated the benefits of CineEI mode and would've thought a camera a couple of grand cheaper for almost the same thing an absolute bargain.

could be a great B-Cam if it gets a small size and a small price too ;-)
Exactly!! And it will be cheaper then A7s/rII (once you'll add all the necessery items).

We all expect it to be stripped down version of fs7, but who knows. Maybe it'll be featured boosted fs700 version?

Nope, I'm having a great time reading all the guessing on these threads. ;-D

I was guessing surely the lack of XDCA-like raw output in the FS700/FS7 to the Odyssey Q7+ licence on this new camera, but your insight tells me it might come from being informed as a company there's an additional model to include in the license support:beer:

I'd be surprised if it had an SDI connection at all but your comments make me wonder :)
