New FS 700 footage

I have problem with the F700 skin tone the f700 seem to output, looks like it need serious grading, i have seen this in a lot's of f700 footages. Is it only me ?

As predicted, gratuitous slo-mo. I expect the major porn producers all have one of these on pre-order.

I think most would agree that the FS 700 is better than the FS 100 in the skin tone department. It still might not be what you would like to see though. If you do not like the skin tone in this video it could be because it is "seriously graded" and everyone has different taste on what the grade should look like.

So far with all the footage I have seen seems to fit with sony's other cameras. I have never really liked the look straight out of the sony's. I am not sure if its the sharpness or the jacked up saturation or the not so good highlight roll off, but it is something that never has tickled my fancy. The only reason I am interested in the fs700 is for the FPS. I have recently started doing more commercial work and I think this could serve a nice purpose.

Well, that was fun. I liked the end credit sequence best. :)

It looks like it's already been 'seriously graded'. What I don't see is that hateful 'porange' or 'cadaver yellow' doughnut ring around bleached highlights. I saw this on the AF101 at every demo at every trade show, so I bought an FS100 and found that if I'm not scrupulous, it does the same thing - where an EX1 or 5dMk2 or even a sodding 550D does NOT.

This also looks like it does NOT. Which I am happy about.

Or we could under-expose by half a stop or even a full stop and use a bit of mid lift - after all, this isn't DSLR footage.

For me, it's all down to the skin highlights and a nice round curve on them. The highlights that is. Not the girls. Ahem.

Mentioned in another thread it outputs same colors as the FS100
and I believe people disagreed. There is proof in the clip same
colors. I've got footage I could put up right now in daytime
that looks exactly the same. And a different white balance Could
actually pull more of the red out for the FS700 clip.

I've finally gotten over the red channel..it is what it is and
aside from that and some ghosting it creates great images.
That's why I got it. Do budget for a colorist if you want
a certain look especially from skin tones however. Totally workable
in my opinion however.

I think this is a good example of the potential of the FS700. The footage has obviously received a good amount of grading, yet, it's still super clean and sharp. It's almost too sharp and clean to where it's clinical, but if so, you could just add a tiny bit of blur and noise in post.

The ability to hold up to grading is something I am going to love. Plus, I'd much rather have an image that is too sharp and clean and needing some degrading, as opposed to the 5D3 people who are ripping their cameras apart to get out the OLPF, doing post sharpening, praying for a Magic Lantern solution, etc, just to escape the soft image.

I think it's going to be an amazing camera, especially for someone like me who is coming from Canon :)

I got some lovely skin out of the 100 and 700, whereby the 700 is way better in that, because of the Hypergammas.
Using the right PP in the first place doesn´t save you from massaging skin in post, but it makes it easier.

I have some FS100/700 comparisons coming up tomorrow.

That is actually the industry I am in the process of getting out of. That's such an ass backwards industry that they probably have no clue.

I only just got my FS100, but this footage from the new model has me wanting to upgrade.

I thought the whole thing looked amazing. I didn't see a problem with the skin tones (or anything for that matter) and I'd tend to agree with gene. (almost too clean and sharp......)

This footage does look pretty good. FS700 handles the highlights SO much better than the FS100. I love it. The best part of the video is the rippling fat on the "good girl's" legs as she starts walking on the lawn. Probably not the best use of slow-mo! :)

Look forward to the testing, much thanks to you Frank for the work
you put in we say it but never enough. I agree skin tones can be
acquired well in both I assume. The videos I see that seem like the
FS100 I assume are using the same profiles or just not the new
Hypergammas.

At this point my FS100 is profitable and there isn't an end in sight for
it in the near future. Folks love the images and I'm getting fond of it finally. Should
have taken (probably your advice Frank)someones advice and stopped looking at tests and
used it more and earlier in my productions.

Hahaha, I'm sure she loved seeing that. And you know we're going to keep seeing more and more body imperfections with this soon-to-be-very-overused technology/fad.

As for the video on a whole, finally some slo-mo I can get down with. Nice job. Mo' better than some random dudes jumping off swings or matrix fighting in a showroom.

Shout out to Thomas from Rarevision - thanks for putting out slo mo I actually want to watch :)

It looks like it's already been 'seriously graded'.

Here's the before/after:

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the ~23 mbit/sec AVC held up. I was expecting vomit, but it was actually pretty okay. I'd really love to see footage from the FS700 dumped to an SDI recorder. I would have tested this myself, but I only had the camera for a few days.

It's a pretty awesome cam. I already texted Santa.

OOooh! Meelikey the ungraded skin tones a lot.

BTW - I made the comment about the Serious Grading because of the rich green herbage whilst holding the skin (been there, tried that, failed), and there's a nice big credit to the post team and Da Vinci at the end, but the main thing is that it has the look of a higher budget (comfortably in the 6 figure range at the client end) commercial.

So the FS700 can do my beloved Fujichrome look almost straight out of the can. You should be arranging your commission from Sony. I'm sold. :)
