New Firmware up on Pro.Sony.EU!!!!!

Shawn, Brian:

After watching Shawn's interview with Juan, I'm going to get the LA-EA2 just for the autofocus enhancment. What are your two favorite lenses to go with, thinking more for fast action sport events as a first use.

Brian, Are you saying that with the 24-70 Zeiss you can change the iris with AF on? (cause I can't with any of my glass....as Sony said.)
Sorry if I confused the issue but no I can't alter iris either, just forgot that the lens needed to be set to AF, not something I am used to doing with other cameras so when I did go into AF mode on the camera and not on the lens I had the same problem Shane mentioned. I wish I could change the iris, not thrilled about the noise of the lens grunting either, though not like the LA-EA1 it is still there.
I have only tried my 24/70 which is a sweet lens but will try the Tokina 11/16 tomorrow. I do like the 1/3 manual iris and will mess with the rest soon. As for the Sony person in Canada knowing or no knowing .... I don't know, he is an engineer. He is: Marketing and product manager - broadcast and digital cinematography solutions at Sony of Canada Ltd.
Like I said, I had warranty concerns and having waited this long another four hours wasn't all that bad. It is now on the Sony Pro Canada website. I have no reason to dispute his qualifications, his word or advice and nothing to prove.

I think it was more of a matter of not knowing and just giving you the safe response. Like I said, the files are IDENTICAL so there is NO question the firmware versions are exactly the same. The cameras might be different, but this firmware they released is not. But, getting different responses from people at the same company about technical issues is common, sadly. How I would LOVE to be able to talk to the actual engineers! :)

(Did you mean to say, I don't know, he isn't an engineer?)

What? you got it in Alaska? Don't think that because your piece of land is physically connected to our that you deserve our firmware! ;-)

Not only that, but when I want to drive from the part of Alaska I live in to another part of our state, I
put my car on a ferry and then drive through Canada to get to the rest of our state....yup we need a passport
to drive from one part of our state to another. I think I am practically an honorary citizen of Canada.....
I'll be in Whitehorse in early June for my daughter's gymnastics meet and we'll be camping out on the Yukon river.
And yes, I shoot all the meets with the FS100/kit lens and sell the Blu Ray or DVD to any parents that want it.

Sony's SSM (or Sigma's HSM) lenses would be quieter. Some of Sigma's lenses have image stabilization too, which should work with the adapter.

My AF on both lens is absolutely quite (as in, I can't hear it at ALL) When I push the auto button it makes some noise, but then you're never gonna be shooting/recording like that anyway.

Frank :) I tried that... but every time (tried three times) I would get a host error after a mb or so....

Alaska... maybe you should try the change language and country thing...

Direct link to mac version:

NEX-FS100 : V2.00 (Mac)

Thanks for that. I had tried the downloaded update from the SONY sites and I kept getting an error message that said, "Update not available for you camera model". Needless to say, I was less than pleased. The download from that link worked like a charm.

Wow, the update does reset everything... except my usage clock.

I really like seeing my sensitivity displayed as ISO. However, the shutter ANGLE vs. shutter SPEED choice got me to thinking... does anybody think in shutter ANGLE anymore? I made my last decision on shutter ANGLE in 1995, the last time I shot with an Arri SRII !!!

Well, back to playing with my FS100!

Shutter angle actually can be very useful - set it to 180, and it will re-adjust when fps is changed (i.e. it will always be 180 deg, as per the book).

So, I'd put your question differently:

- does anybody shoot "film" by the book RULES anymore?

I don't always shoot 180, so for me, I actually set it specifically to the type of scene I am doing. But, I can definitely understand how that could be useful.
