New Firmware up on Pro.Sony.EU!!!!!

Just upgraded to the new firmware. LOVE the new x4/x8 expanded focus, new markers, peaking output. HATE that i'm still unable to name my profiles ! Damn I always forget what I set in the 1-2-3-4-5-6 Profile slots !

Biggest problem is no one seems to have the time to do the work to start a good thread with descriptions and such, we are all quite busy. I can in most cases get the thread stickied up there, but before we did that, we'd need someone to get it off to a good start. Editing the first post with info, etc, and maintaining it.

I think it's a fantastic idea.

Right now I am using Frank's settings and experimenting. I find it interesting that I change some settings and I see nothing in the display. Makes me wonder if some you don't see until you write out the data? Like crisping? I moved that all around and really couldn't see any change when zoomed in 8x.

Is the Firmware posted on the Sony US site? I couldn't find it there or in the Sony Canada site either. My concern is since the camera is three months old I want to stay within the warranty specs and I don't t think a European download will stand up if in the REMOTE chance the camera bricks.

Also being in Canada, I should have been as careful as Brian, but I was too eager to try out the new focus tools, ISO scale and aspect ratio markers. Installation worked fine.

One remark, at some point the installation software on the computer told me to reset the camera, so I pushed the little reset button. This led to error messages and killed the installation. I had to start over. When I reached that step again, I looked at what the camera LCD was saying and hit "okay", or something like that. I never did have to press what I think of as the "reset" button. The upgrade proceeded without a hitch. Tested the camera for an hour around the house and it's working smoothly.

I too had to have several goes at getting the software to connect to the camera and then had no idea what the "reset" button was and turned the camera off.

Anyway by a process of elimination I got it installed.

I just spoke wit Francois Gauthier of Sony Canada, he said they are working on getting the firmware up on the Canadian site and hope to have it there asap maybe today. I asked about downloading the firmware from Europe and loading it into my camera, he said definitely NOT that the model was different and it would not work as designed. He said that I could dl the American firmware, it was the same as the version that Canada would get and that: "it would not void my warranty." I told him I would quote him and he was good with that. He mentioned that I would have to register to use the American site. Though I have not been able to find it on the USA Sony site either. Very confusing

The file I downloaded and installed had nothing to indicate after I started it that it was for the european or any other version. Obviously they could be different, but from what I am seeing, I'd even put money they are the same install.

After I installed it, I was going through EVERYTHING in the camera. And hey, if the difference is the gamma changes, I'll take them, because so far, they look better.

I just updated my FS100 and have the LA-EA2 adapter connected but it won't allow me to change iris with PDAF enabled (auto focus). If I am in manual focus mode then the push auto iris throws the camera in full auto mode (white balance included) so you can't use it while filming.

What lens are you using? I had the same issue with my 24/70 Zeiss until I turned on af on the lens as well as the camera.

The Sony Canada guy probably didn't really know the technicalities and he just wanted to be safe.

I'm sure that's probably what happened, still amuses me that people don't try to find out and just give the 'safe' answer and I was then curious. :)
