New Final Cut Pro Announcement at SuperMeet?

That proves nothing. It could be showing the original codec and not the background transcoded file.

We won't know until it's released and reviewed.

Larry Jordan - who was at the original, fabled demo, at Supermeet, questioned the engineers, and originally broke the story that FCPX even existed - is stating it as FACT on his blog. His questions are how FCPX transcodes the final output AFTER editing, and that's a genuine unknown.

That's good news.. Maybe they used the terminology "ingesting" because that is what FCP users are familiar with.

The vast majority of people buy the Adobe suite...not just Premiere. I don't see this $299 price tag having any impact on Adobe sales.

LOL, i don't think Apple is remotely concerned with Adobe sales. At $299, even if you have the BEST NLE, are you going to buy this at that price point? Apple doesn't say, "If you have AVID, Premiere, Vegas, we will not allow you to buy the product". Watch the video: http://vimeo.com/22341718
At $299 are you going to pass? I'll bet no. you might buy it and still prefer Premiere. But guess what, Apple still got you to buy it. Genius sales them folks at Apple.
By the way, in that video, looks to me that was done in an Imac. Imagine FCPX on a 17 MBP with thunderbolt. Or when thunderbolt is on an Imac. Editing stations will be with you everywhere you want them to go.

At 17:00 minutes in, he does confirm that AVCHD is native editing.
Thats been stated in every press release put out. Of course it is.
Listen to what he says. He states that this is Imovie, Final cut express, and Final cut pro wrapped into one. Thus, it becomes the USER on how powerful it really is, being the creative aspect. For the vacation guy with his $300 AVCHD cam all the way to the guys shooting Alexa. Doesn't matter. Built from the ground up, and with room for more floors!

As a long time FCP user ... Very little is even keeping my interest. Keywords? Favorites? This whole magnetic thing ... I guess I'm turning into one of the old guys now when I say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if it IS broke, don't make it into an iMovie Pro."

People are ooohhh-ing and ahhh-ing and applauding basic iMovie features. I HATE a lot of the iMovie features. Not clicking on the mouse to scrub is one of those. Now it's included in FCP for no extra charge! Were they paying people to applaud for this?! This is stupid!

I gotta go take a walk or something...

And lastly, I may have missed this, but ... Final Cut 10?! Really? ...3,4,5,6,7,10.

EDIT: And face recognition? I'm not seeing the need for this either.

The point is that in the professional post-production world people buy the Adobe suite for design and basic composite work, not Premier. A new version of Final Cut Pro is not going to change what tools graphic and motion graphic designers use.

Apple's hold on composite video was Motion, which included some technology that trickled down from Shake. Most people in a professional environment used After Effects over Motion.

Not 10, it's Final Cut Pro X. CORRECTED: it's Final Cut 10. I'm curious to see the software versioning number. Final Cut Express 4 is currently priced at $199, so I'm also guessing that this version of Final Cut might be an attempt to upgrade/bridge the gap to Express users. Can't know for sure until there are more announcements, but one other big question is what version of Final Cut will be included in Final Cut Studio 3 after June?

From the feature set, they seem to be positioning this version of Final Cut as finishing software. Pure speculation and wishful thinking, but if they able to roll the technology from Color/Motion/LiveType/Soundtrack Pro all into the new Final Cut architecture, priced for the prosumer, then they could even threaten Smoke sales. Probably not going to happen in X, but X2?

There has been mention of built-in secondary color correction including range and power maks, and having this built-in with facial recognition/tracking could be useful for this.

Man I totally agree. I don;t, think FCP was actually the real problem. Yeah I wanted better media management and faster rendering, who doesn't, and 64 bit is awesome...

...But the real problems were with the rest of the suite, all of which was buggy, overly complex, going in and out of other software, and most people were just confused by most of it. What should have done was left most of the GUI of FCP alone and just integrated the other software into FCP better.

Who cares if it's colorful looking? Wow? Who cares? I want something that works well, is rock solid, doesn't crash all the time, isn;t buggy, and makes my life easier, not prettier...

No, they were calling it "Final Cut 10" at the meeting, but that's a trivial point.

I understand your point for CCing faces in facial recognition. I was thinking the FR aspect was for labeling clips and who was in it ... which is pretty pointless.

I WILL say that the clip color match does look nice, but I'm still not sure why people are falling in love with something that's been out for years.

EDIT: +1 to stabsteer

Coming from a Vegas perspedtive. This has a lot of features we have, but more refined in some areas. I could see myself using this.

The speaker in the video posted earlier clearly said "FCP 10" He called it that...
I also don't care for the timeline scrubbing Hawk mentioned... I don't like it in Vegas either but I guess that's personal preference.

Why not wait until it's officially out or at least till we have more details. An Apple rep has acknowledged that the other apps in the suite will be addressed with his "stay tuned" comment.

I'm not a power user or anything close, but I think this new version looks (features) great to me. Can't wait to try it out.

awww... it looks like Vegas and Premiere has a cute love child.... I'm you huckleberry, Apple. I'll play your game. What is there to lose?

I can tell :)

No, they are saying for $299 we'll give what you already have in AVID, Premiere, and Vegas with some cool sounding extraneous stuff attached.

At $299 are you going to pass? I'll bet no. you might buy it and still prefer Premiere. But guess what, Apple still got you to buy it.

You are absolutely right! And I'm going to use my educators discount to save even more because if it was a dime to dollar more, I wouldn't even be reading this thread to write this reply. Not that I don't love Final Cut, I do, but it's like loving the uncle that always gets too drunk and really handsy at the reunion- too much of a hassle to deal with all of the time. Hopefully, this release addresses the issues that we all have but we will know with time...

Genius sales them folks at Apple.

Yeah, and if that genius is also applied to the program, then a cheerful Tobias Funke inspired "Huzzah!"
