Not sure WHY Canon has not just made a 1DCII
The new Canon rumor is that 80D will be out first. But no 4K.
This one is difficult for me. The NX1 and now the A6300(smaller body) can do 4K from an APS-C sensor. Downsampled from the larger resolution even. Plus 4K HDMI out. Both are in the same ballpark as the 80D. So why can't Canon?
I agree.
Sony seems to give the best bang for the buck right now, with the A6300, FS5, and FS7.
Canon seems to deilver solid cameras, for twice the price. But since the first C300, Canon is moving along so much faster than it used to. In 2004, their big announcement was the XL1S.
All the rest, including JVC and Panasonic (and Blackmagic and Red), are like awkward teenagers.
They can. They choose not to. At least, they choose not to market a $2,000 4K DSLR while they are marketing a $2,000 4K fixed lens camcorder. There are many explanations for it. Some, like the self-crippling of 1D XII, may be due to their internal company politics/managerial decision (Canon stills shooters, which is a majority of Canon customers, seem to love it); others may be due to deals/agreements with competing manufacturers, which is a legal practice in Japan. This one is difficult for me. You should rent an A7SII and a Metabones adapter for your next wedding and try it out (for video).
A $675 256GB CFast 2.0 card is only good for 40 minutes !

It's called a "keiretsu" system - something like "vertical integration" from the purely economics perspective - but, in practice, cartels are indeed legal in Japan.I did not know collusion was legal in Japan. Maybe that explains the glacial development of camcorders until companies like Red and Blackmagic got involved.
Yes, but not exactly normal ones. To record 4k you'll need to use the same kind of super fast ones that 5D3 owners use to record ML raw footage. 100mbs? 1000x? I can't remember the exact spec, just that it's the same ones that you'd use for raw on 5D3.read somewhere that normal compact flash cards work in 4k for 24,25,30fps but not 50,60p

Ideally, it should have had a 264 based codec for 4K - as it is, it's only in 1080! - and a 10-bit internal recording.
- 2 hours and 20 minutes recording time for 1080/30p (IPB) with Movie Servo Auto-Focus DISABLED...doesn't mention 1080/60P, or any 4K times. I hope it's then not like 30 minutes per battery for 4K/60P with Movie Servo AF ENABLED, ha.
