New Canon DSLR's

Remember September 1st is just the announcement. It won't be until sometime in November most likely when the actual camera begins shipping. There is also no confirmation at this time as to whether the camera is FF, or APS-C sensor despite the pictures showing an EF-S lens mounted.

There is a lot of buzz on this topic that it could be a hybrid sensor that allows for both EF lenses and EF-S lenses to be mounted. Essentially a FF camera when an EF lens is detected and an APS-C camera when an EF-S lens is detected. This is already being employed by Sony with their A900 model. And yes I understand that the depth is different between EF and EF-S lenses. Just saying it is a possibility that they created some sort of mount that can receive both. Who knows.

EF-S is not backwards compatible.

There is a rubber shroud on the back of EF-S lenses that would be physically hit by the mirror as it flips up to take the picture. It is APS-C.

And why show off a FF camera (presumably a PRO feature) with crappy consumer lenses rather than L glass?

update:

Pricing Update [CR2]
These are unconfirmed prices I’ve received from a few sources.
In USA: $1699 Body
In Canada: $1999 Body
I have no Europe, Asia or Pacific pricing at the moment.

"No, its an aps-c sensor and not a ff. I guess the price will be around 2000,- (us-dollar or euro, doesnt matter). How things look to me now we´ll only see 1 new camera - 7d?."

Agreed, my assumption initially was we would see the 1d replacement (mk4) on September 1st. If APS-C, 15-1600 sounds right along the lines of 30/40/50d release prices. Once thing (or more) mysteriously missing is any mention of lens updates. The 24-70 could use some improvements (and IS), 70-200/2.8 is due for an upgrade (it's almost 10 years old now) and the Hybrid IS system they've made comments about....all suspiciously left out of the conversation. I'm actually in the market for updated L glass at this point....I'm VERY happy with my 5d2, just addicted to IS at this point and I've been waiting out these announcements before purchasing my 24-70. I've had the 70-200 2.8 for a couple years and don't feel the need to update it (my favorite along with my 85 1.2)....but there has been quite a bit of chatter of an update to it. I figured we'd see the 7/60d & 1dmk4 along with a couple pieces of high end glass. Next week will be interesting.

I shot a wedding a couple weekends ago with my 5d2 as the 3rd cam. I've been editing it this week and I'm blown away by the footage of the Canon. It has worked it's way into "A cam" territory in 50-60% of the film at this point. A&B were 200a and EX1 so it was in good company....It'll be interesting to see how Canon improves the video on these DSLRs in the next couple of years. Their "pro" line of camcorders are starting to get long in the tooth....Have they abandoned the "XL" platform in favor or DSLR?

In that case you might be someone else's teenage girl :D

lol

What it's illegal to deep DOF with teenagers in the US? you guys are so deprived.

There's a rumor floating that they are about to announce a 24-105 f/2.8 IS L lens, that would be tempting along with the 7D. I think there's a chance the 7D might have AF video like the GH1.
