New Canon DSLR's

Canon rumors are talking about the launch of the 60D next week and the 1D Mark IV in September. They are both rumored to have video so lets hope it's 24p. It's gonna suck if only the 1D has 24p not just because of the sticker price but because it's bloody big and heavy. With 2 digic V processors onboard you'd think jello wouldn't be an issue. It's also a 1.3x crop sensor so it's just a bit closer to cine DOF.

And there's this- "The 5D Mark II could be seeing a firmware update “any day now”. No word on what will be added/fixed." I'm not counting my chickens though.

Wishlist or Real?
A new spec list for the upcoming 1D appeared in my in mailbox. This is from a 50/50 source.
Specifications
16mp FF
DIGIC V (Dual)
10fps
61AF Points (Somewhere around 20 selectable)
100% ViewFinder
3″ VGA LCD (It’s mentioned OLED is a possibility, it exists in test cameras)
SD/CF Slot
1080p Movie (24p, 25p, 30p)
New Lighter Battery
Ergonomic Changes (2nd Joy Stick Type Controller)
CR’s take
That’s a lot of AF points, that’s what makes me thing it’s a wishlist. We have yet to receive a solid (with proof) spec list.

Wishlist or Real?...
1080p Movie (24p, 25p, 30p)
...

That sounds really good. But what about the price? For the actual 1dIII you have to pay around € 3100,- here in germany (only the body). I guess the new model will cost at least about € 3.500,- !?

Yep, you can expect the cost of the 1D replacement to be on par with its current model. It's definitely not going to go down that's for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if Canon did only offer 30p/25p/24p on the 1D replacement. Wouldn't be worth the extra money in my opinion if that's all it improved upon.

Probably about $3000 US.

I think 24p, much less jello, 1.3x crop (closer to cine DOF) is worth $1000 for the upgrade provided it can match the picture quality and low light capability of the MKII. With the added speed who knows it might not line skip and there could even be a codec improvement. There's been a lot of pressure from Wallywood for canon to deliver something cine worthy so this could be it. The only thing I don't like is that it's a big bastard.

Hopefully we'll know for sure in about a week

1D will never be full frame. It is and always will be aimed towards sports photographers, who prefer the 1.3x crop. Kind of silly that canon rumors posted that...

Plus a solid body, FF, weather sealed SLR it would eliminate the 1Ds.

I just read that, woohoo! if it's for real. Could be my dream cam a crop sensor with 24p, better image, less jello and less noise than the MKII for less money.

Anyone wanna buy a MKII?

I've shot with all crop factors... 1.6x is by far my least favorite in terms of still photography. The viewfinder is too small, the image feels too compressed. FF can sometimes be too shallow for video work. 1.3x may be the way to go, unfortunately it will remain in the +$3k range!

If the 7D, presumably a 1.6x crop camera, does as good if not better video than the 5D, it will be hard to beat...oh the suspense!

It will almost certainly be 1.6x crop which is almost perfect for cine DOF and if the noise specs are an improvement or even the same as the MKII this thing will be incredible in low light because you can open up your lenses to f/2.8 instead of shooting at F/4+ to get cine DOF.

I expect it will be slightly smaller and lighter too.

I'm mildly excited.

I think Jarred on reduser.net published his dog pic taken with the new Mysterium-X sensor in response to these soon to be released Canons. It's in that thread called RED ONE meets Mysterium-X in general discussion.

Jannard mentions that they wanted to show it off in part due to the upcoming release of a few new cameras. I can't think of any significant camera release other than these Canons.

I'm rooting for RED, but I think if these Canons have the 24P and improved jello and aliasing, the line for the Scarlets is going to be a lot shorter (yes!) when they finally come out.

Leave that iscorama on it and I'll gladly pick your's up. Been thinking about stereoscopic stuff lately too...

I have 3 isco's so that could be an option, only problem is MKII's cost a lot more here so resale value is more than US retail.
