C100: New Atomos Ninja Blade With HDMI

So, just wondering - has anyone with a Ninja Blade updated to 1.0.3.1.00, and if so, does the HDMI trigger still work?

My C100s are on Firmware 1.0.3.1 and both the Ninja 2 and Ninja Blade (v4.21 and v5.1 respectively) worked fine with the trigger. Used the Blade yesterday and it was rock solid all day long. Really liking it.

I have heard a report on the Atomos forums of users who upgrade to 1.0.3.1.00 and then can't trigger their Ninjas.

From what I remember, the C100 firmware update wipes out all your user settings and presets. I wonder if the person having issues forgot to turn the HDMI Record Command option back on in the C100 menus...

Also, I contacted Atomos on Facebook and they confirmed they are working on a fix for the 2-pixel shifted output. They said it had to do with the pulldown removal and for a temporary fix, we should use 60i and perform pulldown in post.

Ben, where did you buy a Ninja Blade here in the UK? CVP only had 15 and they were all sold before the end of BVE I think. ProAV are saying estimated 7-10 days on their website. Got several jobs in the next week or so where I could sure use one of these babies on my C100...

How do you set it up for viewing C-log on the C100? I just received the unit and I only see a setting for Canon 5d. I am just playing around with it at the office as I edit. I did not actually hook up the camera. I did however view some footage I shot previously that I had and it looked sharp....but washed out a bit as it was C-Log.

Thanks,

Andy, I bought it from proav - they're expecting them in next Weds. £595 and they did free shipping for me.

Cheers,

Ben.

Need to report an issue!

Was using the Blade with my C100 on a job this morning and the connection kept shorting. Just was not locking onto my signal. Very frustrated, I tried to troubleshoot. I had to turn off Timecode/Record Command in the C100 menu, and this fixed the problem. But I need those functions!

Just reported to Atomos and they are looking into it. I'll keep you all posted.

BTW running up to date firmware. Look out for the issues...

Is this the first Atomos product you have used with the C100? Just wondering if you had any issues with the original Ninja2. I had some similar issues from time to time with that unit and I hope it is not a "camera" issue. I was hoping the Ninja Blade would solidify things a bit.

same here. I had a lot of problem with the ninja 2, I was hoping the blade and OS 5 would fix that too. Let us know.

I put an order and I should get the blade early next week. I will report on those issues, I did have them with the ninja 2.

I was not having problems with my Ninja2 at all. It was ultra reliable. That's why I felt comfortable pulling the trigger so soon.

I tried different cables, different recorders, and different monitors all without any issue. It is definitely a problem with my Blade, either firmware or otherwise.

FWIW Atomos did confirm through SN that my unit was very early run and that might be part of the reason for the issues. Also, the HDMI > and HDMI < icons are reversed on the unit, which the support rep informed me was something he thought they fixed in pre-shipment runs.

Really hoping it's a firmware tweak, would be a bummer to have to deal with shipping in the unit for repairs. To Atomos' defense they have been pretty responsive so far. And the display is gorgeous.

Regarding the feature with in and out points, favorite and reject footage... Can the XML file generated by the ninja blade be opened in premiere pro CC? Does all the metadata come with it?

Thanks

I've tried the XML via Xto7 to Premiere, and no joy. It appears that the range info is pretty unique to FCPX. I sent a feature request to Intelligent Assistance (who created the Xto7 app which takes FCPX XML export and converts it into FCP7 friendly XML) to see if they can at least add markers at each in and out point. However, I guess they have to pick their fights carefully and this may not figure that high on their list.

Anyone have any suggestions which arm would work well with a C100? Would love to not have to use rails to mount this.

I've used my Noga arm - but a bit overkill unless you're using two NP-F970s. A reasonably sturdy metal ball and socket should do it, I'm currently mounting on the front Hotshoe using the one that came with the LitePanels MicroPro.

My Axis is working really well. I havent been able to get out and shoot with it yet like this, but messing around with different mounting options and finding it very flexible. The NB is lighter than my Zacuto EVF. Very cool!

Erik, I see that you are using the zacuto studio plate now (nice). Do your rods keep spinning even with the red knobs of the plate tighten?

The rods lock down tight. no issue. I got the Studio Baseplate because i'm putting a gold mount battery on a cheese plate behind the camera. The Gorilla plate didn't have that option. Might have to sell it back to you!
