NEED HELP! Compressor won't initiate after submitting to que

Have trouble converting my Final Cut Quicktime files to DVD files using Compressor 's DVD: Best Quality 90 minute setting (MPEG-2 6.2bps 2-pass & Dolby Digital Professional 2.0).

Everytime I press the submit button the que reads Unknown Time Remaining.

My process bar never initiates. It never did this before. Now all of a sudden it stalls.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Love to help.

But what are the details of your hardware, OS, QT, and versions of FCP and Compressor.

What codec, frame rates, etc for the QT movie you are converting?

I had this happen before. I clicked on Batch Monitor and saw that it actually was running without error. Check that.

Hey David,

Software versions are as follow.

1. MAC OS X: 10.4.11.
2. QT: 7.6.4
3. FCP: 6.0.6
4. COMP: 3.0.5
I export out of FCP to a FCP QT file. I still export video using the DVCPROHD 720p 24 format. I shoot with the Canon 7D. Could that be causing this problem?

So your saying it still converted the footage, even though it read Unknown time remaining?

Not sure. Have you tried the basic reboot and restart? Have you verified/repaired permissions in Disk Utility?
No. But I will look into that once I get home.

Compressor 3 has some bugs in it's background processing. When it runs, it runs very well. Once in a while, though, it's prone to failure and the quick fix is this:

Compressor>Reset Background Processing

Try that and see if it doesn't run normally.

Will do. When I get home I will look into it.

I was unaware of that. Thanks, C2V. I'll file that away to use later!

Still the same thing. I pressed the reset and then loaded up a video, then submitted it and nothing. Sucks for me because I really have to burn a DVD like yesterday.

Trash prefs?

The "Reset background processing" has worked for me several times, but a corrupted .plist is another likely reason that a FCS app may not behave.

I looked into this a little further, and some people on the creativecow forum had some issues as well. They all had to uninstall / reinstall the software. : /

That sounds bad. So what might my options to fix this?

Trashing prefs is simple, before you do an uninstall/reinstall.

Open your HD icon and then go to your user library. There's a folder in there named "Preferences." You're looking for com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist. Drag that file to the trash, then relaunch Compressor.

If that doesn't work, then perhaps reinstalling the software may be in line.

Trashing prefs is also useful if FCP starts acting wonky. That's usually the first place to look. It's a simple file that the program will simply re-build if it can't find the old one. Of course, you may lose custom settings, but at least your software will be back to normal.

I tried it. It didn't work. I believe I will have to re-install it. Sucks but hopefully it will work.
