Talkin' like 20, 17, 16, 15mm primes.

Nikon mount ones. Which ones are you guys using? I need a prime to replace my Tamron Zoom as it's softness is too much for video.

I would like to test my Canon 17-40 f/4L one of these days, but unfortunately I can't afford the Canon lens mount at the time. I've yet to see anything wider than 24mm used on these boards so far

I have some stills of my 17mm in use. I loves it but the edges are too soft.

And what the heck, Barry. 8mm? That sucker must cost a lot.

I have a 20mm Nikkor 2.8 joint I love and used a few times in " The Simp Takes a Holiday" lovefest entry by Bosindy.

I used it because I like the distortion it gives. I don't have any screen shots yet of the lovefest to show though. I used it in a scene where there were checkered tiles and it gave this weird effect to the floor from above and I used it in a few close ups to give that world left behind feeling where you can see a lot behind his head. People probably won't get that idea when they see it but thats what I was thinking when I used it.

Look it up. Peleng. It's under $400. Sometimes they're as sharp as Nikkors, sometimes -- not so much. '80's/90's Russian glass is kind of hit or miss, but if you get a good one it's a great lens. On a 35mm still camera it's a full circular fisheye, on a 35mm movie camera that's perfectly centered it just covers the frame so there's no vignetting.

Suhweet. I'll look out for it.

Yeah I actually checked on Ebay for it and it's cheap. I suppose 17mm is as far as you can go without goin' fish-eye.

But it's hard to find 17mm Primes. =(

Here is a shot i have from the Simp. 20mm

You can get wider, but rectilinear wide angles start really driving the price up. And 17mm on a movie camera isn't really *all that wide* anyway. It's wide for a 35mm still frame, but on a movie frame it's not that wide.

Cooke's S4 cine lenses go down to 12mm, no prob. I think there was a Nikon 14mm at some point but it's gonna likely be pricey.

I've used the Peleng on my 35mm movie camera, but it didn't quite optically center over the frame so there was some vignetting. I'll put it on the Red when the Red Nikon mount arrives.

Oh, there's a Sigma 14mm lens on ebay right now in Nikon mount too, and the ad claims it's rectilinear. Bidding is about $110 with about 42 hours to go.

=P Thanks for announcin' that. LoL. Just kidding.

I'm sure the price is gonna skyrocket, though. I'll keep an eye on it.

I've played with the peleng 8mm and a vivitar 16mm 2.8.
Both are fun.
There is footage from matt uhry on reduser of a pl peleng with the red.

We just experimented with a wide zoom lens, the tamron 11-18mm. For outdoor images it works great, and the picture looks awesome. Do have to zoom in a bit more cause of vignette, and yes it distorts the image at 11mm.

How fast is the zoom? - yeouch. 4.5 - 5.6

CAn't use that! But sounds good.

I`ve used many UW primes on my letus and so far the 24mm and 28mm have been the most sharp and trouble free but I`ve used Tokina 17mm 3.5 that vignettes like crazy on Letus Mini (its the lens not the adapter) and I have the 14mm 2.8 L Canon that`s footage I`m capturing right now, I`ll try to post some of it if it turns out all right. Moving camera and ultra wide lens are quite unconventional. Even in still photography one must get used to 14mm rectilinears.
Most adaptors will vignette with slower than 2.8 UW primes and indeed the Peleng variety fishy ones are quite alright.
