NBA Playoffs Thread

I think it's a case of the "make-up call". I see this all the time in the NFL too -

the ref will totally miss a call...and a few plays later he makes an equally ridiculous call on the other team to make up for the last bad call.

I think the refs saw that they blew the call on Fisher's shot hitting the rim, and so they made up for that by not calling a foul on that last shot by Barry.

Too bad it was at the very end of the game, so it's the last thing everyone saw and it's fresh on our minds. I think that's why the NFL uses the "booth review" now, because it's those last plays in the waning minutes that really have our attention, and they want to make sure they get the calls right.

They call that a cosmetic (Make Up). Pisses me off.

Yeah, that is absurd. The NHL and NFL use it and while there are still some calls thats aren't made correct about 95% are.

The NBA should just shorten games to two minutes in length and have one player from each team take free throws. That's what the game has become.

LMAO

Order will be restored when Boston whipes their arses with them !

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !

Gonna be a hell of a Finals. (Assuming Detroit loses :P)

ya, i really hope detroit loses. This will be the first NBA finals i'll be interested in, in a while. I'm excited! Thank god the spurs lost.

hahA!

finally a game where officiating wasn't the main headline.

The spurs had them, and they blew it again. You could see age setting in as the Spurs team looked VERY tired in the 4th quarter. Kobe was like a kid in a candy store, got the hoop whenever he wanted.

GO LAKERS! :)

Barkely kept saying the Laker bench was the difference, the Spurs big three, Manu, Duncan, Parker are still young enough. Some of those role players though need to be put in the old folks home. I don't think we've seen the last of these guys.

I was hoping it wouldn't happen, but the refs are back on the main stage.

To quote an ESPN anchor...

"The officiating was horribly one-sided..." - Michael Wilbon

Boston is playing solid; what's up with POWE going coast to coast and jamming it home ? 21 Points in 14 Minutes ? That's awesome.

Kobe is struggling. Very un-Jordan like. If this keeps up, it should put to rest the absurd comparsions for good.

The Boston bench is outscoring the Lakers 52 - 39

Here is a telling STAT

"Paul Pierce has scored 50 points on only 26 shots in the first two games while Kobe Bryant has needed 49 shots to get 54 points. "

"The Celtics are getting to the line -- their advantage is 76-38 so far -- because they have been more aggressive. Boston has adjusted to the way the games have been officiated, while L.A. wants to argue calls more than it wants to just buckle down and play solid team defense."

disagree...the lakers are driving the lane but not getting calls. What else can you do? Shoot jumpers...It's ok, they don't call it home-court advantage for nothing...I'm sure the officiating will be on the Lakers' side when it comes back to LA and then all the Boston fans will be complaining. I'm just sick of it being so damn one-sided no matter whose floor it's on.

Lakers looked like a pinball off of the physical, wide bodies of the Celtics. Without Bynum, the only wide-body the Lakers have is Turiaf.

There was a lot of bad calls last night, no doubt.

Though I also like what Jon Barry said after the game in respoding to Wilbon:

"Do you know how many times Kobe went to the line against the Spurs in 5 games?
Eleven times
."

Wilbon then said, "what does that tell you John?"

Barry's reply, "Jumpshooting. Great defense."

Kobe has shot 13 free throws in 2 finals games thus far.

-----------------

The Lakers and Bryant have been getting the calls all season, and now that disparity has suddenly shifted to the other side they are getting a taste of the bad officiating, and are suddenly hip to bad officiating. Sucks doesn't it?

Remember game 2 against the Jazz?

43-16 free throw advantage to the Lakers.

Game 1: 46-30 Lakers ft advantage.

Game 3: 37-28 Lakers ft advantage.

Game 4: 45-25 Jazz ft advantage

Game 5: 42-28 Lakers ft advantage

Game 6: 38-25 Lakers ft advantage

The Jazz know a thing or two about getting screwed and losing a series that could have easily shifted the other way if it was called fairly.

Don't worry Lakers fans, you'll get yours at home and you'll be back to what you are used to.

To quote Bill Simmons, "The NBA its fannnntastic!"

I see Kobe settling for jumper after jumper. I have seen hardly any Laker's going hard to the hole.

Laker's are the KINGS of the CALL and horrible officiating. I'm not seeing any bias (for once). I am seeing good old fashioned Defense from the Number 1 Defensive Team in the league.

Laker's have no answer for KG, Ray Allen is out of his slump and Pierce is just playing efficient cool basketball.

Boston is simply out playing them in every category.

More boards, more assists, more efficient shooting.

man these playoffs have been just terrible. Who else seems to think the NBA is fudging calls in order to increase ratings and sell Tshirts? What was all that BS about Powe before the game, a nice little sob story trying to make him out to be a hero bla bla bla....and then he magically went to the line 13 times? The calls were fu*kin terrible, and have been all playoffs. The NBA has sold out and gone the way of the WWE...david stern must be loving the profit margin of this wonderfully fixed year in the most pathetic of all professional sports leagues in the world. Take a look at all of these one-sided trades and tell me that the NBA wasn't putting pressure on certain teams to part with franchise players, eg. Gasol and of course all of the bad calls/missed calls throughout the playoffs to ensure the Lakers & Celtics meet in the finals. eg. Brent Barry's 3 at the end of regulation, and last nights game 2 with the lake show and Celts. It really is all about maximizing profits in that business and in a desperate attempt to get there fan-base back I think they are turing true basketball fans away. F*ck the NBA, it's not even real anymore.

Celtics all the way! Now there's a team that plays with passion (finally, again)! Kobe/Jackson era Lakers just bore me. Those guys have no soul.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Celtics continue to dismantle the Lakers.

How do you cheer for teams when you think they haven't earned the right to be there fairly? Officiating aside, how about some sketchy trades:

Lifetime Laker legend and the friggin icon of the NBA logo giving the Lakers Pau Gasol for the poo-poo platter on his way out of Memphis! No other bidding for Gasol?

Celtic legend Kevin McHale giving his former team & teammate Ainge the best player he has ever had(by far) for the poo-poo platter?

The Gasol trade alone should have been investigated for the nature of how that deal was done.

The integrity has left the building. It is awful.

Here is Phil Jackson's response on the subject of the Gasol trade:

yep, totally awful and it's also working because we keep watching. I have to watch though! So who is worse? The NBA for giving us this matchup, or us for tuning in?

Us, for sure.

The NBA needs a new commissioner. Stern should resign. The way he has handled the stealing of the Sonics from Seattle by his friend, which is now in court, is pathetic.
