NBA Playoffs Thread

Celtic legend Kevin McHale giving his former team & teammate Ainge the best player he has ever had(by far) for the poo-poo platter?

McHale has been making shitty trades during his entire tenure as Wolves GM. He's a Minnesota native and people around here have been begging for him to be fired for years. I wouldn't look at this as a conspiracy.

Well

Tonight the Lakers are looking at O and 3.

We have the usual suspects:

Phil Jackson moaning about the free throw disparity. Really, the Lakers are playing soft and not going hard to the rack, settling for jumpers. But this is his usual cry out for help.

This could be one of those fun nights in the Association where Kobe gets phantom call after phantom call.

It's especially comforting to read this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3436401

""Team 3 lost the first two games in the series and Team 3's owner complained to NBA officials," the letter said. "Team 3's owner alleged that referees were letting a Team 4 player get away with illegal screens. NBA Executive Y told Referee Supervisor Z that the referees for that game were to enforce the screening rules strictly against that Team 4 player. Referee Supervisor Z informed the referees about his instructions. As an alternate referee for that game, Tim also received these instructions."

Basketball? Is that STILL going on? I'll be watching Kershaw going for his first win as the Dodgers play the Padres.

Here is more from a different ESPN article:

Donaghy first began telling the FBI about other referees in July 2007. He gave federal investigators additional information in a meeting in September. His claims are serious. They include allegations that the NBA attempted to insulate star players from technical fouls to build up ticket sales and television ratings. Most seriously, he claims there was a successful effort by two referees to extend a playoff series to a seventh game, assisting in the victory for the team that trailed 3-2 in the series. The accusations are the kinds of things that fuel conspiracy theories that abound among NBA fans, but Donaghy is now adding dates, places and games. According to Donaghy and Lauro, two referees in 2002 deliberately ignored fouls that resulted in injuries and called "made-up fouls" to give addition foul shots to one team. Even worse, Donaghy asserts that the referees did all of it because they were "company men" who "always act[ed] in the interest of the NBA, and that night, it was in the NBA's interest to add another game to the series."

The NBA is toast if it gets investigated. It is so obvious that these games are manipulated.

"Tim gave information on how top executives of the NBA sought to manipulate games using referees to boost ticket sales and television ratings," the letter reads. "He also described how nepotism played a far greater role than qualifications in a number of referee hirings."

i love hearing that piece of **** David Sterns rebuttal to these allegations....it's just like the politics in any government, you can ***** and ***** about it but at the end of the day these souless bastards will continue to do what they do because $$$ rules in their world (george W anybody? chavez, hitler yada yada yada)....what's really shocking is that money is more important than integrity in this league, which comes as a big surprise considering David Stern is jewish......

Unless Gasol and Odom start producing, the Lakers won't last five games.

A few glints of optimism though near the end of the 4th quarter. Maybe those two will get their mojo back. Kobe and can't do it alone.

I agree with you there...

Hopefully Phil can give these guys a lil' pep talk.

(You need to delete that last sentence of your comment Paunch. That is awful.)

Okay, I am gonna pretend that didn't just happen.

Man, I don't even care anymore. The game itself is so obviously tainted with manipulating the way it plays out that there can be no satisfaction even when the team I am rooting for wins.

This has been coming for a long time, with little glimpses over the last years. The Lakers-Kings series, The Mavs-Heat Finals, this whole season with Boston-LA "dream matchup", and god knows how much else.

It is to glaring to look away anymore. Even though it is sad, and I have been watching the NBA all my life, the B.S. is just to thick to pretend it isn't there. It's become all too predictable how things will play out.

They need to have a full investigation, independent of David Stern(who is a lawyer), and expose everything. If the league is ever going to get back to a place where people believe what they're watching is fair competition, then they need to figure out who is involved and what they have done exactly.

I think it also important to remember that Donaghy is not just saying stuff to the media. He has provided information and filed it as a federal court document. Why would he risk perjury. This isn't going away.

I've watched every single Laker game this year and to be honest, I have no idea what you're talking about here. Who is cheating? Where is the collusion? Are you talking about Refs, the Celtics? I'm not being facetious, I really don't know what you're referring to and I'm curious. Thanks

Fox Sports ran a poll on that series and 82% of voters thought that the series was fixed.

It was also the series when consumer advocate Ralph Nader called for a formal investigation into the officiating.

Lakers went to the line 27 TIMES in the 4th quarter alone!

Go watch that game(especially the 4th quarter) on youtube and watch for yourself.
