Native 24P/25p settings/problems discussion

I'm with you on that Pappas, but Vitaliy has said even he doesn't know how the adjustments are going to interact. I guess that's the reason we're risking our beloved precious bundle of joy for the good of mankind.

Rambo

This is one I tried today. The same settings I do in Ptool 3.6 however in the new ptool I clicked Remove encoder limits.

24psf settings
Video Bitrate FHD/SH=64000000
Overall Bitrate=72000000
Limiting Bitrate=80000000
Remove encoder limits=Checked

...and the result????

No different as i can tell- need to do more testing. Remove encoder limits didn't seem to stop crashes on very high detailed shots though...

What I find funny is I use MediaInfo to see the Mbits rate of a clip- and it will read 19ish for some high detailed shots. Now I know what 19
looks like from a video camera that shoots AVCHD- even 35mbit from the sony's- I find those to be way over compressed looking. So there is
no way the files from the GH1 that I check in MediaInfo can only be 19ish mbits, cause it would not look so clean. Is MediaInfo not good for checking Mbits rate of files..?

Ok, so we use the same brand/class of the card, just different capacities. I think we should be seeing similar results, especially now that I incorporated kit lens back into testing. The chart I'm using is this one. I think any high detail chart will suffice for testing, as maximum bitrates I get on this one correspond to Video Bitrate FHD/SH setting in Ptool, so I know I tap out of all available target bandwidth.
[/code]

I just corrected the OB2 value Pappas pointed out. But with or without the correction, I can't get a error on the chart svecher is using. Clips average 28-30 Mbps. I printed the chart to fit to an A4 paper, zoomed in till lines fully cover the screen.

I still get error on crunchy's chart 2 even without fully zooming out. So it may be that the stability that you get is because of the difference in chart. I can't figure out the difference in Mbps between us though.

I've eventually succeeded with the new Ptool lacking the Limiting Bitrate. For some reason I had misconception that the Overall Bitrate 2 is mandatory. But upon reading development thread I simply unchecked it and voila - it works with my trusty B+ settings - 34 36.

More than that, the new built-in "remove limits" patch helped me to solve the non-stop recording issue. Now I can record until the card is full, no 4gb limit. Also I managed to lower the GOP size down to 10 and I could record it without hiccups and even play it inside the camera. In my unscientific subjective tests with panning through foliage I came to a conclusion that lowering GOP in B settings is perceivably better than increasing the bitrate up to C. Yet previously that didn't work with my card - I had dropped frames.

So far I see vast improvements due to the "remove limits" patch. But the Overall Bitrate 2... I've tried 18, 34, 40, 50, 72 with the same other settings posted a couple of pages ago - they all just fail - card error or freeze. See no use in it in my case.

Haven't tried yet 24/25 native, SH mode etc.

Thanks crunchy

.

Interesting. So you just used; Video Bitrate FHD/SH & Overall Bitrate- and checked remove limits and your settings worked for you..?

Just noticed the Latest Ptool just dropped "remove Limits"- or is it rolled into a patch?

Yes, just Video Bitrate FHD/SH & Overall Bitrate. I used the newest Ptool version where remove limits is already incorporated. But you have to check the "remove limits" if you use an older version that has it.

PS I also use Preset Bitrate 1 & 2, if it matters.

Ok, well I tried the my Video Bitrate FHD/SH- 64 & Overall Bitrate-72 , As well 24 over 60i ( 24psf ) and since "remove limits" is gone now, it was not an option to select from the new ptool-

Anyhow, I got the same errors with the same shot as I get with 64-72-80 60i loaded in ptool 3.6 older version. So there's no difference in performance from the older ptool versus the newer ptool as these setting are concerned.

PS I also use Preset Bitrate 1 & 2, if it matters.

Did you them to match to your Video Bitrate FHD/SH settings?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. Lots of good, very detailed discussions here so it's sometimes difficult to find answers to the easy questions.
