NAB 2019 rumors (and releases)

Soo.... can we clarify CD situation? ;)

They were there or not?
Are they slowly bleeding out?
No new products, no new upgrades, CD Twitter looks empty with the last post dated October 2018...
Something doesn't look right

Convergent Design did not have a booth. I’m not in a position to tell you the condition of the company, but it is still in business. Choosing not to have a booth at NAB is not necessarily earth-shattering. DTS is a high end fiber link company with no booth. As mentioned, Vocas had no booth (but a rep who was at the show taking meetings and providing gear to others, including me at Panasonic). AbelCine chose not to have a booth but instead a private meeting room. I know of several other companies that are doing just fine but for various reasons chose not to have a booth at NAB.

I can tell you that a booth at NAB is a ridiculously expensive endeavor: booth space, setup fees by the company that runs the show, fees for power, fees for setting up the booth (you can only do your own to a limited degree), fees for transporting gear in & out of the convention center, costs for staff to man the booth for four days, hotels, meals, flights, etc. Even a small booth is thousands and a modest one can quickly run to five or even six figures. So for various reasons some companies calculate that it isn’t worth the expense.

?

First off, I’m pretty busy during NAB week. As in exhaustingly busy day & night. Second there’s a lot of good info already being shared, and I look to see if I have more to contribute or clarify on the products I represent. Third, it’s not my place to comment on the goings on at other companies as that is both rude and possibly ill-informed. Fourth, I give tons of info where and when appropriate. 6300+ posts and ten of those little squares under my name should count for something.

I don’t have time to be on DVXuser constantly, but when I do I tried to post substantive comments. One thing I sure don’t do is post about a company at a trade show when that company is not at that trade show. That stuff just confuses and misleads people.

"Where and when appropriate" along with "products I represent" are the key words here.

True professional, just thinking about yourself at the end.

No emotions after being so much involved with CD right here on this forum.

Even quite a spin doctor. Nice crumb that Tilta Nucleus-N.

But true professional would told you that in segment where EVA is positioned: OMB to limited crew you just can't have a camera without really good (Canon good) AF.

Excuse me, but who do you think you are and what do you think you know? You’re stunningly rude and presumptuous.

“Where & when appropriate.” Because if others have already said it then I don’t need to repeat it. And if it’s a thread about someone else’s product it would be rude for me to tout mine. Or if someone was trying to sell something it would be obnoxious for mr to post why I think that item sucks.

“Products I represent.” Perhaps it would be nice to use the full sentence so that the context was clear. I work for Panasonic, and it is part of my job to make sure that information about our products is accurate. Not shilling, not deriding others, just making sure that if someone posts information it is accurate. Do you have a problem with that?

Who says I’m thinking just about myself? If that were true I wouldn’t post here at all. In fact if you care to look you will find that there are many posts from me that have nothing to do with Panasonic or any other company I have worked for. I’ve shared various tips and experiences over the years that I’ve been here.

As far as CD goes, it would be rude for me to comment. I no longer work there. If you want to learn about their status you should ask them. I’m sorry if you don’t understand common manners but I do.

You can insult me and call me a spin doctor all you like, I was genuinely impressed by the quality of that device for just $230. As far as your critique of the EVA1, you’re welcome to your opinion but it also has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation we were having here.

So was the sony tease on the FS7 looking body just their ENG kit? Doesn't look like they updated anything else (no mark 3 or successor?)

This is a general statement for all parties engaged in ad hominem (insulting each other and making the discussion personal): perhaps take a step back and re-read your posts as if you are someone else and don't know what you know (dissociation). What you might realize is that when you accuse someone of something, you may be doing exactly the same thing! (projection)

Additionally, projection insults also tell readers and the world things about yourself you may not want associated with your personal brand, especially in a professional business environment.

Here's another way to look at the situation with compassion: when someone is having a bad day, or things in their life are really stressing them out, they'll act in ways that perhaps they normally would not. Everyone has experienced this. If someone says something unkind to you, a normal reaction can be to return the energy, sometimes with added fire. This is the normal unconscious reaction generated by, you guessed it, the ego (the part of consciousness that fiercely protects self-identity). Let's look at the same situation instead with yourself and a wounded animal, such as a pet dog or cat who you love dearly. Your pet is wounded and in terrible pain, and they bite or scratch you. Do you get angry with them? At first perhaps you might, however if you have empathy you realize they are wounded and not acting like they normally would, and thus you ultimately don't take it personally and figure out how to help reduce their pain and help them heal.

The same pattern can be applied between people. Instead of returning the negative energy from an insult, you can ignore it or call out the ad hominem then focus on the discussion (in person a technique you can use is the 'pattern interrupt', which can be something as simple as coughing, grabbing your phone, or other distractive/change-the-subject technique to shift the conversation). Or even better, try to understand why the person is lashing out, "hey man you OK?" if you know them better (or even via PM) which can redirect the energy towards healing (which the angry person is really asking for, even if they don't know it).

Another technique that will appeal to the ego with humor: if you return an insult with an insult, you're dropping to their level, and others watching will see this. A funny way to put it: "Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience".

I’m surprised there isn’t more talk of the Tilta Nucleus-N here on DVXuser. A sub-$300 wireless follow focus that works well and is refined in its build is the sort of product I would think to be of interest here. I was pretty impressed with it.

I noticed one on a Varicam in your booth. :)

Got mine from B&H (long pre-order since Dec) the week before NAB. I've been looking for this exact thing at a good price since 2006 or so.

Love it!! Strong motor for just 5V. Strong signal with no drop-outs so far. Quick lens calibration. I wish the controller was a bit larger, but it designed for gimbal use first, and that's understandable. Awesome and cool little battery charger for the included 4500 batteries. Works well with my Ronin-s. Will DIY up a little remote focus kit using it.

Can somebody please beam me over to Liebman's, or Eisenberg's, or Katz', or 2nd Ave, or David's Brisket house? My mouth is watering.

Not exactly the same thing, but Russ & Daughter's is amazeballs, too. Get the Babka and Lox (not together); you won't regret it.

Excuse me, but who do you think you are and what do you think you know?.

Who do yo think you are? Soup Nazi?

I was just defending freedom of the speech and, clearly that he didn't needed, James0b57.

You can take your corporate stuff to official pages.

Would be nice that if anyone who have any ulterior entanglement with this site other then pure user (sponsors, advertisers, owners, owner's pets) have that in writing in their footer. And that they couldn't down vote anonymously.

Professionals do know about concept of fun and best posts that I read here were when the thread went as possible from the subject.

Intelligent ones also appreciate humor. Like that EVA joke.

@jcs some poor Greek philosopher wrote that "all human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion and desire". Well, that is just an overture to asking you if you can share your references to working blockchain implementations?

Actually it was on the EVA-Live kit. I was looking for an affordable high quality way to put a focus control on the pan arm and I was amazed that a wireless solution proved to be the answer. I believe it works by Bluetooth and on the first day of the show someone asked if it might be vulnerable to interference. “If it works here (NAB Central Hall, 90,000 people and a bazillion forms of RF blasting about) it should work just about anywhere.”

Sorry I missed you.

Who do yo think you are? Soup Nazi?

No soup for you!

I don’t particularly like being personally accused of nefarious things. There’s freedom of speech (which doesn’t particularly have much bearing here, but whatever) and then there’s being rude. I won’t post certain things because it would be rude and I don’t like others being rude to me. I was wrong about that light and apologized. But people ask me things about Convergent Design all the time and I’m not going to answer because (1) it’s not proper for me to as I no longer work there and (2) anyone in any business should understand that sometimes one has proprietary knowledge that is inappropriate to make public. I’m sure you know lots of information about people and businesses that you know it would be wrong for you to share publicly.

Anyway, if I overreacted to your post or anyone else’s then I apologize. I am not here shilling and I do answer questions and post info about lots of topics that have nothing to do with my employment. When there is something about a product I have some responsibility for, I try to offer correct technical info. Mostly that’s often covered by others so I’ll only comment if there’s an error or misunderstanding. And I don’t go downvoting posts.

Mitch has his professional affiliation clearly stated at the bottom of all his posts and, I believe, all site sponsors are indicated as such below their names, as well.

And Freedom of Speech really only pertains to government interference. I'm not saying I really support any type of censorship, but people like to throw the term around a lot when it's not truly applicable.

I see this all over the place and it drives me crazy. If someone has views that a private person or business has a problem with and they decide they don't want to hear it or host it (eg Twitter etc), that doesn't impact your freedom of speech. The Man telling you you can't say or read or watch something, or else people with guns will show up at your door? Now we're talkin'.
