NAB 2017 rumors?

With that ^ and the rokinon comment, I like where this thread is going... XD
(at least we're having a good time as we wait for the real action to arrive!)

May be someday they will produce a sensor size equal to a 5 inch mobile phone. There will be no noise. So DPs will try to spray some mud on the lenses to emulate filmlike noise. Good DPs will be judged by their mud spraying abilities to differentiate themselves from robots. Each DP will produce their secret fine mud concoctions. :)

We can only dream.

What we know is that someone was going to buy an FS5 and they told him to wait a bit. I wouldn't like if they told me that and then it was because they were bringing out a camera at three times the price.

A6000/6300/6500 are now being offered at a substantial discount. Usually, it means that something else might be on its way.

And soon.

Unfortunately, it'll be an incremental improvement. If Sony would reduce the rolling-shutter artifacts and add true 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, at least to the HDMI output, then an upgrade might be worthwhile.

In Europe, A7RII and A7SII are also being sold at steep discounts.

As to the what's appropriate or inappropriate for the NAB - GH5 is a pro quality camera even if it lacks that title. It's good enough for pretty much any 4K/HDR consumer display. Sony's new mirrorless products in the same weight class - the press conference is on the 23rd - should address the rolling shutter effect, as mentioned above, and the remaining heat issues.

Sony's also announced a few other things, including a BSI MFT sensor (right now, mainly confined to the industrial use) and the road map (100 MPX and 150 MPX) for the medium format. IMO, sooner than later, the medium format will make it to the high pro end video niche to compete against Alexa65 and, to a lesser degree, Red Helium. For the big budget features and TV, a quarter of a million dollar camera is not really a major expense, especially as a 3-4 month rental.

When I was at NAB in 2014, I saw both the Sony A7S and the GH4 on display. If their was an A7S III about to be released, it wouldn't surprise me to see it at this year's NAB. I'm actually going this year so I'll be able to see it up close if it happens.

NAB has evolved over the years. You want to announce anything and everything anywhere you go. It doesn't matter what the show is called anymore.

Sony's lowered the price of RX1II from $3,900 to $3,300. Either they ain't selling well or there's a new version on its way.

And, naturally, there are rumors that the latter is indeed the case -roughly A7RII specs in a compact body.

And they ain't selling that well either.

Sony mirrorless cameras are too much money, step up a little to an FS5 and have a better experience at only slightly bigger penalty. And while that RX1 is a nice camera, the price is just way too high.

The A7R and S series are hybrid cameras. Give them a 10-bit output - better yet, give them a 10-bit internal a la GH5 and top notch auto-focus a la A6300/6500 - and they accomplish a lot of things.

R1 X series was for amateur photographers with money. A lot of money. Who probably bought A7RII anyway.

Here we are two weeks away from NAB who knows will be released. The thought of an A7RIII with 10bit internal recording would make a lot of camera obsolete. I have seen the Fs5 in person and was surprised how large it was. I would much prefer all of the 10bit goodness in a hybrid body. Kind of crickets when you think of how much buzz there used to be before NAB...
