My dolls

SPOILER REVIEW:
Initial thought: Wait, so did that crazy lady wreck the car?!
The good: I really liked the jib shots. Looked stellar. I liked the building of tension in this, too. Well done. I jumped when that woman jumped out of the bushes. Good story, and good use of the flashback to explain a little more of what was going on.

The not as good: Is that Papyrus font? Didn't two officers leave the vehicle at the beginning? A driver and a passenger? The video on the TV didn't seem to track smoothly. A couple of soft shots, but nothing terrible.

I liked this one. I definitely believed that the man following was the villain. Good job.

First of all that train shot was mint!

Spoilers below, highlight to read:

This had a level of creep that I just adored. And not too shabby for first time actors.
I liked some of your POV shots to an extent but they got a little heavy handed.

Finally the ending, I'm not sure how I feel about it, the data dump. Was it necessary for the story? I think I got all that before the TV newscaster told me. I would just left it with the girl and her tea party and watched her sanity continue down that rabbit hole. I think ending there would've been much better.

Some technical stuff here and there but great job overall.

Cool film... I especially liked the.....
Spoiler:
...formaldehyde scene and sound design! SWEET. I do have to say as soon as I saw that, I knew the rest of the story... I just watched an episode of Criminal Minds (The Uncanny Valley) that was very close to the same thing. Liked the flashbacks...and the train shot ruled, it was worth the wait! Good edit...yes there were some soft shots, but the camera movement was well thoughtout. All in all a very good film!

Seems like we have quite a few female villains in this fest.

You did a great job on this. The train scene rocked. Unfortunatly I figured the plot way too early.
Sound design was good. Great camera work. Well done.

Spoiler:
A nice little film with an interesting twist. It did remind me of criminal minds though. It seemed as though some of the CC didn't match on some shots. I thought the girl on the stretcher's acting was a little weak. The repetitive voice over got a bit on the annoying side. I really liked the train shot. I thought the bit at the end with the woman talking to the camera felt really out of place, it just felt like who was she talking to? It would have been far more powerful if she was sitting at the table with her friends speaking to them as though she was a kid and those were here dolls at a tea party. It just felt as though the character was collecting the dolls for the sake of collecting them, there felt like there was no emotional connection for her and the dolls.

Overall an interesting little story. Nice job.

I thought this was very good, your directing style and shot selection are strong. The entire first 2 minutes is exciting with good use of locations and camera movement. I did not see the twist coming, so it worked for me. I also like all your overlays and trippy editing, i do that a lot as well and i really appreciated your footage cross-fades that show the flashback when the girl is on the table. It totally worked for me. I sort of wish you ended it with the girl and the dolls shot, i didn't need the tv news reporter VO or those end shots at all. I understood it by then, but that's just my opinion. Really cool short though, i'll be rating you highly.

Yes, she wrecked the car. She was reaching for her cell phone. Huge problem in CA.

As i watched this and the train scene came up, I wondered...did they have 2 cameras so they wouldn't have to wait all day? or did they only have the one camera and have to wait for next train passing...Acting IMHO wasn't that strong, looked pretty...the looping of her saying same thing kinda didn't work for me. Dolls r creepy...this woman has problems lol

bottom line
Great entry! Looked very very nice! Thanks for sharing

All i'll say to that is that the train schedule is not accurate, which can be frustrating :)

Hey guys! Thanks for the reviews...I am just getting to watch the films when I can and hope to have them all reviewed by Wednesday so i can get into all the discussions.

Couple of things:

The train. We did have 2 cameras Dustin, but did not want to miss that shot. The one in the film is the second take. On the first take the girls slipped down unexpectedly and went out of frame. Looks good but we ewaited for another shot at it. And yeah the trains schedule was all wrong :) So the girls stood up there for an hour or so and we all waited..then "TRAIN!!!!!" and everyone was alive...haha...really fun

Criminal Minds. As we were setting up for the second scene..someone mentioned an episode of criminal minds that had a doll colletor type of character...I dont watch the show so we googled it. Didnt seem the same as our idea and we wouldnt have been able to change anyway..so we said ehh... whatever....

Thanks guys...looking forward to discussing all your films over the next couple of days.

Cool entry. I downloaded it but the playback didn't seem smooth, a little judder to it.
The lead actress played 'creepy' quite well. Nice work.

I liked the way it was shot for the most part. Seemed a little soft but overall it was pretty good.
Interesting story. I would cut the length of the edit down and I don't think there was a need to repeat so much info.
A quicker paced edit might give a little more punch.

Good entry though. Nice work on getting one into the fest. Congrats!

The train looked great. Sure I figured the woman was the bad guy, but that didn't hurt the overall story. I do think not knowing when to end did. I felt it should've stopped with her smile into the camera at the end. The TV reveal wasn't needed. Overall nice job.

Nice poster and spacing of the dolls so the title could fit in. I like that location choice and enjoyed the BTS.
