My 7d rig finally fully setup...

Well here it is. I finally have acquired everything I need for this camera for me. It's damn heavy, but well worth it. This may not be the best setup for you but maybe it will get some ideas going for some people wanting something similar.

What I got attached to my 7D...

cpm cages with the shoulder setup. Their shoulder pad has yet to arrive so I am using one off of an indiefocus rig.
redrock mattebox
redrock follow focus
rode mic
small hd monitor
noga monitor arm

looks front heavy... very front heavy

Having the handles attached directly to the cage and having the camera mounted below really helps. Plus the monitor really has to be in the right spot. The small hd adds a lot of weight to this. I would tell you to come check it out if you lived in Portland.

that thing is a beast, my back is hurting just looking at it, lol, but def very nice.

Just curious, with that much invested in gear, why not shoot the 5D?

Nice! How do you like the microMatte box? I was thinking of getting one for the 7D and wanted to see how well it works with a DSLR rig...

I suggest you get your camera as far back as you can for shoulder work

Flip the FF get it fore of the handles if you can

Most important ret the low rails right forward, mayby chop em shorter

and get the montior forward

ie get the camera as close to your chest as possible

That helps fore aft balance no end

looking at this I would configure it with the cam even further back now - its and old picture - you want chest to dslr distance at about 1 CM and some rear mass helps too

The 7D was initially just going to be a "get me by" camera until the scarlet s35 was released. I hated running my hvx with letus. It sucks for shooting snowboarding. I wanted something to give me some depth without putting all of that glass in front of the hvx. I purchased the 7D and I slowly sold off all my other gear...hvx and letus.

If I was to do it again I would still buy the 7D over the 5D. I don't need full frame and then I would have to buy full frame glass. More money!

so far it's been great. For the price you can't beat it. I spent a lot of time deciding what matte box and follow focus I wanted and I am very pleased with my decision.

Well... if the investment was putting in the 5d... you'd end up only with just a camera... To get a whole rig this nice, one would need more money! but then the question would be, with all that investment, why not shoot with a ___ camera? it goes on and on... So, best thing is to get what's best for you on what you could afford!

how much does it weigh in at? your (libec?) tripod must be maxed out!

I have no idea how much it weighs. but the libec is hanging in there! I can hold this rig right handed and set focus just fine. I plan to do some more work with the shoulder pad/weights, just waiting for cpm to finish their pad and then go on from there. Always a work in progress when it comes to camera gear. Or so it seems like.
