Thanks. But you protect the high lights or expose for high lights? You expose spot on or adjust in post? Noise reduction?

It honestly depends on the shot. Sometimes I will expose for highlights, it depends how much light I can put on the model to balance between lights and darks. Very minimal noise reduction done to a few shots but typically I don't find the FS700 and Odyssey7Q noisy compared something like an FS5 which has more noise even with the newer iso2000 rating.

I think in te beginning of the post video , have takes very video not cinematographic (how star this post), but is well,
and bosh video is very nice the color grading is amazing.
I have project a sony fs700 + odyssey 7q with 2k prores + ronin in some shoots. let me know what you think is a spot doesn't pretend to be boring thinking in the target.

Really nicely done Santiago. Some lovely shots and really well edited. Not a huge fan of the super wide angle lens but it's a great piece of work
 
Thank bosh its a lot if comes from you!!!... well i am not a fan either but, now think if use with a principal objet like a close up works very well and some times have results like a full size sensor.

You did a great job. You really got some of the better footage I've seen from FS700/Odyssey7Q

I'm also thinking. But is difficult to get current info. I tried in different threads but get mainly no replies or superficial info. Maybe is too late in game and not many people using it anymore to give deep info.

Mainly about noise, rolling shutter, dynamic range and high light roll off.

And also about speed boosters. Is it worth it? Introduce defects in image? It must be metabones or cheaper ones are as good?

7Q vs Atomos? You choose Atomos for price or because you think is better?

Is old camera so can't rent around here. Going by compressed web video is hard to say.

Regarding noise - there is some. About the same amount as an FS7 and a little less than an FS5. Nothing too much though as long as you expose properly. Dynamic range is 14 stops. It's a good amount and you're really not going to notice an improvement until you compare it to a RED or Alexa. As for rolling shutter, it's not too bad as far as rolling shutters go. Definitely better than most of the DSLR's out there. I would say 100% go for 7Q over Atomos. I have both and the 7Q is just a better recorder with better functions. I would wait and see if CD go ahead with implementing Prores RAW. Currently it's only available on Atomos. It's an incredibly powerful codec and worth having in your bag of tricks. I would agree with most of what boosh said. Just I think Inferno is way better value - it is way cheaper andInferno’s screen is miles ahead but there is onefeature that I miss. 7Q has SS, Inferno does not have. Anyway both recorders will unlock great features of fs700.

I still do love fs700 and I think there si no other camera on the market (in reasonable price range) which I would buy and did not miss anything from fs700. Slomo is soooo good, even 4 seconds of 4K slomo is so usefull.

But there is one thing that I really dont like on fs700+recorder. It is not huge or heavy, itis just stupid. My work is 90% handheld and I often feel like I am working out not shootng:)).

Hi KrocanX, I'm looking at finally replacing my FS700/Odyssey7Q with the Kinefinity Mavo LF. It does everything the FS700 does but MUCH smaller and lighter with no need for an external recorder. Better dynamic range, full frame , better more accurate colours + 6k upto 50fps. Seems like the perfect upgrade to an FS700+recorder.

I am using fs700 with metabones speedboster all the time. Basicaly 99%. It works awesome, you will not see any distortition. Only when using fast wide angle lenses you can see soft corners (ie Tamron 15-30 2.8). One thing about speedbooster no one talks about is that you need to backfocus them. Inside element can be rotated. I have bought my speedbooster here on DVX and locking screw was damaged so sometimes inside element move and I need to readjust it.

I did not try cheaper alternatives.

I think somewhere around £12,000 ready to shoot. A fair price for what you get but still not cheap. The weight issue with FS700/Odyssey7Q makes it worth the investment for me. You could fly the Mavo LF on a smaller ronin plus it's a fairly future proof camera (at least for what I shoot) in the sense that it does 6k 50fps.

Thanks. But real 14 stops? Didn't C5D gave it like 12 stops? In this thread people talk of 10 or 11 stops: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?282355-FS700-13-Stops-of-Dynamic-Range

Not even the FS7 gets real 14 stops from C5D. Also not Canon. I think only alexa measures real 14 stops.

Thanks. Is there a feature by feature chart comparison between 7Q and atomos somewhere? Is only inferno or other atomos also support FS700?
