C200: More specs on Panasonic EVA1 released

If one was to take a peek at an ever helpful Wikipedia, he could locate all sorts of info on data transfer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_device_bit_rates

As a side note, Samsung NX1 had a 80 Mbps (later hacked to 150) recording in 2014. For doc/ENG shooters, something like a 110 Mbps 10-bit would take ~ 40 GB/hr to the SD cards. Yet, here we are three years later, waiting for the 150-400 Mbps recordings in H264. C200, obviously, should have both the Raw Light and an H265 from the start. As should all multi-purpose cameras above $7,300 or so.

The fastest offload device in the industry is the Panasonic XPD3. It uses Thunderbolt 3 to offload a 512GB ExpressP2 card in just seven minutes. Two can be daisychained together to saturate Thunderbolt 3, so two 512GB cards (one full TB) can be downloaded in just eight minutes.

I have no interest in an irrelevant Panasonic P2 offloader. That's not why I'm looking at this thread. Unless your point is that Pana is better than Canon in this space? If so, that gets to the heart of my original comment.

Perhaps your concern with transfer times on a Canon camera are genuine, but working for Panasonic it's reasonable to question whether your motives are pure. Even accounting for the excellent rep you've built.

That seems a bit harsh. This whole thread - which I started - is off topic for this forum so I personally feel that Mitch's post is just fine. The P2 based camera's aren't competition to the EVA1 or the C200, so I think Mitch's point is just an interesting aside. It also makes me think that perhaps a dual slot CFast reader would be interesting for C200 users.

Perhaps you missed the title of this thread.

Sure, if he wasn't sowing seeds of doubt in a Canon product, while working for Panasonic. And he holds a position of authority here, appreciated for his knowledge, sharing and experience. There's no escaping it, his own livelihood is tied to how successfully he sells these products. In the same thread he took a dig at a Canon product, he called his own a Ferrari.

I find this forum a sanctuary from the manipulative, self-interested world of business and politics. Every person who comments here is just one of thousands, expressing their own personal beliefs, with their own personal biases. All of us come across posts that have us shaking our heads (I know that's happening right now :)), but there's rarely a risk that that poster may have another agenda.

Ironic that you call out my comprehension skills.

I'm not with you on this one. The cheapest camera that supports the ExpressP2 card Mitch is talking about is almost $15,000 - and that's just for the body. Realistically, it's more like $25,000, so it's not in the same ballpark as the C200 or even the C300M2. I'm not doubting the C200 because there's a Varicam LT available for three times the price.

I don't Mitch is sowing seeds of doubt; I think Mitch is a nerd (sorry Mitch) and he's nerding out on the coolness of ExpressP2. I'm ok with reading about that, just like I'm ok with reading about an Alexa or a 911 GT3; I'm not going to own or even actually even want to own other but they are both pretty cool.

Anyway, just my opinion. Hey, I see you're in Brisbane! Brisbane, Australia; right? Not the silly Brisbane, south of San Francisco? The latter is pronounced by the locals as "Bris-bane", which, as someone from the former, always makes me cringe....

But... but why would you shoot that many hours of RAW without offloading or having a DIT? Are there a bunch of people out there that just couldn't wait for a RAW camera so they could shoot 17 hours of talking heads?

That's what I've been suggesting from the get-go, that you might require a DIT if you don't want to shoot 8-bit footage with the C200.

From my perspective it seems a bit crazy that Canon is forcing you to choose between fantastic 15 F-stop DR RAW footage or lower end 8-bit footage.

If you want the RAW look you have to shoot RAW and deal with any CFAST 2.0 issues that this might involve.

Hopefully Canon will come to their senses and add 10-bit internal recording with a C200 firmware update next February.

Y'all need a sense of humor. If someone starts a thread specifically discussing the EVA1 specs in the C200 then I think we're in fair game territory to discuss various cameras.

It wouldn't be the internet if someone didn't get their panties in a bunch over nothing...

To be a board full of supposed TV/Production professionals, there are a lot of sensitive and thin-skinned people here.
