Hallo Gary!
So you suggest to shot one frame every minute. I really don't want to have a snappy timelapse but a smooth transition in it. So i was thinking to shot only the sky,not trees or landscapes. Like the ones i've seen in Lilac's video. I don't need a camera movement by the way. I have to show the sunset and the beginning of the night. What i've learned is to not touch the iris. So my problem is that i don't understand how to do that! Well i can try it with two 301 and a 5D,with different parameters to see the differences, but if i don't know the technique i'll have for sure a bad result on every camera!
I think that DSLRs are much more suited for shooting timelapses, so I would directly go the 5d route. I have done a couple of timelapses recently on the 550d (this being the most recent http://www.vimeo.com/20438354). It is not very hard but it needs some experimenting and alas some trial and error. Shooting with the 5d would also leave you with a higher resolution than 1920x1080, giving you the possibility for camera movement and/or cropping your frame.
As a side note, even though I come to Italy at least once a year to see my mother in law
Regarding my original question, for the moment there has been a change of plans. So we are planning to shoot events on dslr only (2x 5dII and 2x 550d). We'll see how it goes from there.
