And I'm sure that's not the end. What Sony will probably announce on IBC are F5/55 FS5/7 updates - paid and free, that will prolong those cameras edge for even longer. They don't really need to. With FW updates their almost 4yr old F55 still competes against the newest C700 and the Fs7 is still eating much of the C300 market up and still able to compete with the C300II even after 2yrs on the market. Sony has given these cameras some legs and as an owner I appreciate that.
Unless they would bring something revolutionary with a new camera it will make them much more to milk money from existing camera owners. Just think about possibilities: paid firmware upgrades, faster memory XQD cards (ie to enable higher frame rates), new raw recorders and extensions. It makes more money for them and keep owners happy.Based on a quick look over at a list of Sony E-Mount cameras on Wikipedia, it seems like they like to cycle every two years for the majority of cameras from everything from A7 series to FS series. Since it's already been two years since the FS7 was released, maybe will see a new FS7-like camera along with a F5/F55 update as well? F5/F55 cameras were announced 4 years ago and have seen plenty of updates already to make it worthwhile investment. If we don't see refreshes in the line, I would love to see some paid upgrades to FS7/F5/F55 that unlocks more potential to make them competitive. Like Ben said, I would love to see some sort of RAW Compressed come to these cameras without needing a recording back.
