Other: Mitch, should we be excited about IBC 2016? :)

" I personally think that this is the camera that the C300mkII should have been."

Nail on head.. so why didnt the brains dept at canon not see this..so obvious.. except for the crazy price tag..the VF alone in UK prices plus VAT.. from what I can see ..is not that much less than an Fs7..!! top end market but no 2x Anamorphic.. and crop frames over 60fps.. and still not really sexy.. sort of 90,s design.. this thing will sell like a chocolate fire guard.. unless they half the price.. such a great looking picture and such woefully bad everything else.. what a bad week its been for Canon..

The Alexa guys dont what this camera.. the Amira/F55 guys dont want it.. its way to expensive for the Fs7/F5 guys.. and gals.. leaving who to buy it..? but disgruntled C300II owners who have recently robbed a bank or won the lottery..

I don't see Sony on that list yet :violin:

They don't really need to. With FW updates their almost 4yr old F55 still competes against the newest C700 and the Fs7 is still eating much of the C300 market up and still able to compete with the C300II even after 2yrs on the market. Sony has given these cameras some legs and as an owner I appreciate that.

And I'm sure that's not the end. What Sony will probably announce on IBC are F5/55 FS5/7 updates - paid and free, that will prolong those cameras edge for even longer.

God yeah. I'd much rather pay £2,000 to enable internal OCON or Pro Res 4444 at all frame rates or similar and keep the FS7 going while it still has a good rep amongst Producers than have to buy something new and start the cycle/gamble all over again.

I definitely would want more updates (free or paid) to my investment(s) as well.

I am just antsy and in the market for a new camera (like a big boy cinema camera), so really just waiting to hear what Sony has next before making any moves.

Canon seem to have shot themselves in the foot with the high price tag of the C700.. certainly the Fs7 and F5 don't seem to have any big new competition so far..

I would be surprised to see Sony introduce a new camera, and even if they wanted to I'm not sure their sensor supply chain could even support it. Just look at how much trouble they are having keeping FS5 on stock.

Based on a quick look over at a list of Sony E-Mount cameras on Wikipedia, it seems like they like to cycle every two years for the majority of cameras from everything from A7 series to FS series. Since it's already been two years since the FS7 was released, maybe will see a new FS7-like camera along with a F5/F55 update as well? F5/F55 cameras were announced 4 years ago and have seen plenty of updates already to make it worthwhile investment. If we don't see refreshes in the line, I would love to see some paid upgrades to FS7/F5/F55 that unlocks more potential to make them competitive. Like Ben said, I would love to see some sort of RAW Compressed come to these cameras without needing a recording back.

I'm interested in more of a camera update to the F5 and F55...something between $15K-$30K with 2-3 different models.

4K/60p or 4K/120p internal recording without additional accessories. A lot of other features that are spread out across the current models and new ones. Maybe 6K or 8K capabilities depending on how ambitious they are feeling.

Wouldn't you expect those two cameras to get a replacement soon regardless of any firmware upgrades they are receiving?

Basically an internal OCON shooting pl mount camera with downsampled 4k 120fps from a 6k sensor (or higher) is the sort of thing that would really make waves and would replace the F5,55 and 65.

Unless they would bring something revolutionary with a new camera it will make them much more to milk money from existing camera owners. Just think about possibilities: paid firmware upgrades, faster memory XQD cards (ie to enable higher frame rates), new raw recorders and extensions. It makes more money for them and keep owners happy.

Ideally, they would do both.

Keep all of the existing customers happy forever with updates/add-ons, but provide new products for new customers at the same time.

I have my own therapy going on here, ha...I am really trying to talk myself out of buying a F5.
