"Miss Laid" - A ZazaCast Films Presentation

I think all of the critisisms made so far are valid, but a good movie entertains – and this one was entertaining. It didn’t take itself seriously, and because of that it was just plain fun to watch. Whatever flaws that exist are easy to overlook (they are already covered so I won’t repeat them), and not (just) because of the nudity. Good job!
 
ZaZa, you have a terrific sense of humor. This was such a fun film to watch! It has this cheesy, campy energy that just carries the viewer right on through to the fantastic "climax" (wink wink). The repetition of such a widely understood situation played great comically and really upped the frustration. By the end, you just want the girl to get a guy with some stamina! And the twist on the situation was a hoot.

It seems you're really making great strides as a filmmaker. This film felt very structured in the writing and especially in the blocking of scenes. It begins with smooth tracking and static shots, and once the heat is turned up, the camera, like the characters, gets adventurous and in on the action. And you certainly didn't pull any punches. It was actually quite refreshing to see some nudity. This is not coming from some horny young male, but as an American that likes to see that some people can refrain from prudence and "bare it all." I commend your lead for her ability to be comfortable with her own body.

Is the film perfect on a technical level regarding audio and image? No, but it really doesn't have any nagging defects. All-in-all, a really entertaining piece that doesn't take itself or the situations involved too seriously.

Man this one was pretty crazy in all definitions. The quest part was funny, the story was funny. The girl did a great job in acting in all directions. Good work ZaZa

I must say I wasn't disappointed at all. Your shots were very well executed, with the dolly stuff... or slider, or whatever you used. Much better shots than the one from 2 fests ago with the guy with the beard.

You had better actors this time around too, which helped immensely.

The story was confusing to me too until you explained that it was her dream and that she was a nun. I never would have figured that out...

Thanks Landfill. You got it. It was just meant to entertain. I stated in an earlier post that what kept coming into my mind was an old TV show, "Love American Style". Just a fun little short that I hope people enjoy.

The ZazaSlider (you can find it in the DIY thread)... best piece of gear I own.

Much better shots than the one from 2 fests ago with the guy with the beard.

Loved it. Like the others I thought it would have been a little better ending when she finally text on the phone, rather than the final bit in bed. Nice Alley McBeal reference.

Yeah.. you know, originally that's where it ended. Then during the shoot the idea came up. I couldn't resist. I also have a version with that section AFTER the credits. Live & learn, that's what these fests are all about.:beer:

But if I did that, would the viewer understand that she gave in to lust (as did the priest) instead of keeping her commitment to faith...thus completing her quest?

I actually think it plays better without that tag on the end. I mean, you already have one really good reveal(which you need to take OUT of your banner ads, BTW). I think that second reveal is pretty weak by comparison. I would leave it with just the first if it were me.

I didn't get what was happening from the first dude. It seemed like he looked at her cooter and got ill. So I thought she had a penis or something. Might be worth it to excise that dude, because his performance doesn't get it across what's actually happening.

And what is up with Upstate dudes that they can't seal the deal????

The sound is funny. It sounds like a lot of loose ADR, like "Love American Style" or something. It kind of works, so if it's intentional, leave it.

I would also cut the nude shot. I think for the humor you're going for, it's kind of jarring. Given the subject matter, the story is really handled in a pretty sweet manner up to that point. And the nude shot puts it suddenly into lewdness. I would kill it.

I dunno, this is a goofy assed film, and I think I love it.

This is all great advise..and Yes, I was thinking "Love American Style"!! Damn, you're good! Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment, it means a lot to me. I already know what to do with the next cut.:beer:
 
Nice "zolly" shot with the slider! hah.

The indoor lighting was a little flat and dark, but the outdoor shots near the end looked good.

Not really the type of film I like, but I definitely caught the fun, campy vibe of it. In line with that, maybe the nude "baghead" shot should go? I could also do without the end part, as others have said.

Overall, I liked it and laughed. I like boobies and shower-sex as well. A good, old fashioned sex-romp...hell yes!
 
Oh, my, gosh. What a fun film. That she thought so highly of herself that all those men would just look at her and - wow. That in itself was hilarious. I LOVED the opening shot. See, that's what I want to work up to with the slider. I need to practice. Anywho, back to this film. I echo the sentiment of the confusion with the first guy. He looked disgusted rather than orgasmic. If he was looking at her face when he started, then I'd be less confused. And I don't like the paper bag scene. The animated face seems out of place, and to me, covering her head like that depersonalizes her in a disturbing way. And I'd say the same thing if she wasn't naked.

But, really, just a fun film. The out of sync "sex noises," her varied attempts to hold off the inevitable, the pacing. You should stop downplaying your efforts here. You went for a lighthearted comedy and were quite successful.

Thanks for the feedback Solomon (I'm getting to your film later today)! I totally understand, this one isn't for everyone. I'm glad you liked the zolly....I used my ZazaSlider (see DIY section) extensively in this one.

I'll have to post about that shot, you're the first to notice it. I built a small dolly that would run on my flex-track and on that, I mounted the ZazaSlider...so, it's a dolly-slide-pan shot! Only took about 3 passes to get the right moves.

Yes, that actor was the least experienced (and youngest...20). He's just trying to get into acting and when you find your actors on Craigslist, well, beggers can't be choosers. Everytime I tried to get him looking up, he was totally conscious of the camera and it pulled you right out of it.

The idea with the 3 little scenes (Alex, back me up here), was that no matter how what she wore...from farmer to nude...the guys just kept loosing it. Remember, this is all a nun's dream who is questioning her faith. (I know, WAY too deep!)

But, really, just a fun film. The out of sync "sex noises," her varied attempts to hold off the inevitable, the pacing. You should stop downplaying your efforts here. You went for a lighthearted comedy and were quite successful.

Very fun film. Not sure why you are giving us a huge hint to the big reveal in your banner but that's your choice. :)

Great job with this one. Really funny and entertaining throughout.

Thanks Michael for taking the time to watch & comment.

I didn't think the banner was a complete giveaway, but if anyone's been following the thread or looking at some of the BTS pictures I posted, they would have seen the nun. I even created a second poster featuring the nun & priest. Now I know better...next time I won't keep such a complete production blog....keep them guessing.:beer:
