"Miss Laid" - A ZazaCast Films Presentation

sorry if this has been asked before, I read in your first page that it was easier to find an actress willing to bare all than a location. How did you convince her in the end, if it wasn't sure that she was going to do it until the day of the shoot? What were your alternative shots you had planned?
 
No problem... from the moment I contacted her I just kept asking to make sure she was up to it. I reviewed the script in great detail and explained what & how all of the nudity would go down. Again, it wasn't like she was walking around naked all day! Also, you'll notice most of the nudity is just her, alone, and for the shower scene, I had her and Ben (the male lead) get in their swim suits and in the shower. I positioned her with her back to him, set lighting and framed the shots...did a few run throughs...then, asked her to take her top off. Ben never saw a thing because her back was always to him. You'll also notice as the camera makes it's way into the room, you're only seeing them from waist up.

The other nude shot, the infamous "Bag Scene" was the only one that required her to be completely nude. We set-up the shot and I explained how I wanted her to position her body so as not to reveal too much of the lower regions (think Bermuda Triangle...if you know what I mean?). We did a few run throughs without the bag....she then removed her robe and got into position. There were three of us in the room at the time and I had everyone turn away while she got ready... then we got the shot and that was it! It was really quite lame....and like I said, Christie is comfortable in her skin. She's a "Yeager Girl" (you know, like a Miller Girl or Bud Girl and works in area bars promoting their liquor) and model as well as an aspiring actress. She repeatedly told me nudity was not a problem.

Now, just in case, I asked her to bring a tube top with her and if she wasn't comfortable, she would have worn that and I'd shoot much tighter shots, shoulders up. I would have done the same thing in the shower scene and would have used the thicker, frosted shower curtain I brought. There's always a way to simulate nudity...but the real thing is better! Just look at some of the comments here.....
 
that score was great. You are one sick muthaf**a! I love your films. I have been out of the loop for this vest but you never fail to disappoint. good stuff my friend
 
I'm late to the party Zaza but I always make an appearance. I must say that this is a very refreshing film, as a good comedy is always needed during the fests. I enjoyed the campy, tongue-in-cheek vibe of it all and thought that it was well executed. You got some laughs out of me. I also enjoyed the reveal. It definately made everything come together for me. The soft warm look worked.

I enjoy your films because you've got that sense of humor that's just twisted enough to really work. Looking forward to your future stuff. Good Job!!
 
I just got a chance to watch your film and I wanted to tell you that I enjoyed it. I think it's the best one you've done so far. Also, I enjoyed reading your production blog. All that BTS stuff is fascinating - especially how you dealt with the nudity.

Thanks so much Chris....this means a lot coming from you! I try to keep the blog going and it's really nice to see that someone appreciates it. Personally, I learn a lot from these and love to read how others deal with the day-to-day craziness of filmmaking.

I'm looking forward to your next film....maybe the next fest????
 
Day to day craziness is our forte, especially in DVXFest Land. Especially Zaza's special brand of craziness. I might have to make the drive down to New York state next fest to check out the craziness first hand... whaddaya say Zaza?

Well, I enjoyed the bloopers and poo poo anyone else Joe who can't say shi* about it.

She really was consistant with her acting in every take and yet at the same time making each one unique. Perrrrttttttty damn good actress to me.
And pretty hot but honstesty she seems like a cool person.


Sorry you didn't make the top 10 Joe. You made a good short!!!
