mic for c300 ?

what is the difference between hiper cardioid and super cardioid? does the super one gets less from the behind? as far as i understand all of them have like a small tail in terms of reach power.....

if i ll use on cam mic in some situations in interior i would like to avoid the sounds from behind my mic (sounds like me operating cam....)

its seems like its more complicated then i thought........ i kind of never worked with sound my self before as there always was some one else who did it, but now i am going to be a 1 man band and trying to find out as much as possible about it now.

from what i understood the shotgun mic is not good as on cam mic at all if you film interior ...... well on cam mic is not good idea for it at all.... but sometimes i ll have to stick to that option..

so from what i understood for interior shoots i need - cardioid/hiper cardioid/ super cardioid. as i understood the hiper cardioid has longer reach and picks less noise compared to cardioid, but what about the super cardioid?

as i understood the shotgun mic can be used for interior shooting but only on a boom.... and is used mostly for outside news kind of shooting....

plz share some of your experience....

regards

Anatusa yes the Super Cardioid is better on camera since it does not pick up as much sound from behind. If you type in google Super Cardioid the third search will show pictures of the patterns. Take a look at that and it will show nice renderings of the patterns that will help explain the difference. I used NTG-3 shotgun which is nice but once I shifted to my current on camera mic I was very pleased with the improved sound. But as I said earlier most of the time I use the Sennheiser on a boom or use Sennheiser 2000 lav setup with Countryman mics.

It really depends what you are capturing. For me my setup works well and I get complements on my audio all the time. We shoot in very loud locations.

The NTG-3 is a really phenomenal mic, and IMO is the best mic you can get under $1000. I use it as my C300's on-cam mic when I need to get the best on-cam sound possible, and I wouldn't trust anything else on-cam if the audio is critical and I don't have a dedicated sound op. Plus, it can really withstand the elements; I've had mine out in dusty, wet, humid, rainy, cold, & hot environments, and it always works perfect and sounds great. However, it is relatively long (10") and heavy (nearly 6 ounces).

When I just need basic on-cam audio or a scratch track, I use an Audio-Technica AT875, which is just 6.9" and weighs only 2.8 ounces. It's so small, you probably won't even realize when it's attached.

I'm also planning on picking up a Rode Videomic Pro or Stereomic Pro for when I need sound and I'm not using the LCD/XLR unit. That combo of mics should have me covered for any situation.

1 question ! i read in few places that mic holder of c300 is too large for NTG3? is it true? it kind of surprised me...... if its so , did u use something around the mic to hold it in place ?

Yes, it is! I tried my NTG-2 with a C100 and the holder is too large too. Tomorrow I'm going to try a strip of that kitchen non-slip rubber sheeting cut to fit. Anyone have a better solution?

If you happen to own both the Sony FS700 and the C300, how about using the Sony's FS700 XLR mic on the C300? It's actually a perfect fit in the C300's mic holder.

well i am not that lucky!

guys what u think about Sennheiser K6RD / or K6 - as i understand k6rd is not that hot as k6rd.... anyone used it?

i like its modular side! i like an idea of having 1 base with different capsules to use at different situations!

Foam tape (in the weatherization section of your hardware store) will provide a bit more isolation from handling noise.

I have never liked the sound of the ME66. It has always sounded strange to me. No clarity. For the budget-minded I would recommend the Audio Technica 875R. Awesome sound. I use it all the time for interviews, and voice really cuts with it. Handling noise is a little high, but with foam tape it improves.

Personally, Iv'e used also a Audio Technica AT-875R and love it. I also have a Sennheiser E-644, which is also great. apart from that, I also own some Octawa microphones, which I recommend both for run and gun and for boomed usage.

I´ve been waiting for ages for the VMHD and had to buy sth, so I went with the new Sennheiser MKE600. I´m planning to do a comparison with my 416, but so far, as an onboard mic, it sounds great!

I am interested in this new product. it is not very expensive, neither too cheap. and it is battery powered and has battery life indicator. that is good.
I have a at875. it works very nice with h4n. but I always want a battery powered mic.
hope some review will come out soon.

I like the Sennheiser ME66 with the K6 capsule. Powered by a single AA and no phantom power required.

i wonder - have u used it as on cam mic as well? my problem is that i often have to put mic on my camcorder...... during interior shooting, - and with ntg 2 for example i had tons of unwanted sounds from camcorder handling, i got terrible sounds each time i touched cam or tripod... had to sell it out

i ve made my choose for out of cam mics ...... but on cam mic its kind of a pain

hey guys!

i need your advice again..... i need a boom for my NTG3 , what should i look at or think about, when i choose a boom? i think i d like it to be with a cord inside.....

and one more thing i want to use 1 of my old cases - a diplomat that i used back in school .... for my audio equipment (ntg3, wifi, lav, reporter mic....) so i d like to find a Foam to put it in case ..... do u know any place where its sold in custom sizes? the inside size of my case 46cmx35.5cmx 9.5cm

Regards

Sanken CS 2 is my default on board mic. I do have schoeps CMITU5 and Colette which rotate in and our of on board duty as needed. With the C 300 it is a convenience to have two mics , one that lives on board and one for the boom in interview situations. I realize this is a convenience consideration but I have been caught too many time in fluid doc situations with only one mic swapping between boom and camera positions and this is why I decided I needed 3 mics .
Nothing breaks a documentary faster than bad sound...

i recently filmed in class room where is no furniture at all other then tables, i used my Audio-Technica AT4053b, but i can hear like a very small echo sound, probably because of the sound reflection?

but i wonder what could help? would wind protection tools help with it? and if so what do u think is better?

Original Audio-Technica AT8106 Slip-on Pop Filter (Metal) maybe with some Fur coat on
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...8106_Slip_on_Pop_Filter.html/pageID/accessory

or

Rycote Baby Ball Gag Windshield - maybe also with Fur on.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/745941-REG/Rycote_011007_Baby_Ball_Gag_Windshield.html

that baby ball is kind of very expansive tool for what it is ..... but if its worth it...

i wonder if anyone else does same kind of Baby Ball Gags?

Azden AZSGMPDII with Azden AZSWS100 softie, super light and short enough it does not get in the way when shooting with a wide lens.
