Metal Check is a reality show based out of Oklahoma (the wild, wild west) that tells the story of a very lucrative recycling business run by men with guns, but owned by a woman with a soft heart.

I've been working on the show for 5-6 months and it's coming out great. I have 7 episodes almost completed and it's getting to the point where I need some feedback. The show has been shot on the Panasonic AF100 and the GH2. The first couple of episodes we were kind of getting our bearings, but I believe the content is great and will quickly find an audience. Here is the first episode. Let me know what you guys think.

Marlon you're a beast. Are you trying to sell the series to network? The style of shooting and editing, as is, doesn't fit a typical network reality tv format, but if it's just for web then it doesn't matter.

This is like an entirely different world to me so colour me fascinated! I'm loving it. Good luck with this. Some of these people are super interesting to me.

I'm looking forward to more of this. Keep us posted.

Loving it so far. You know my initial thoughts that we discussed already (secondary angles, more with the stories of the patrons, etc), but my main critique so far would be the graphics. The lower thirds leave me wanting. Let me know if you want me to work on some concepts, or if that's something you were planning on doing later.

this was good! for TV like he said you probably have to edit it a little different, but it def shows us there is a story there and some characters to follow.
A lot of guns eh?

Thanks, guys! We've put in alot of work, but have more to go. I'm taking all the advice I can get right now since this is my first reality show. We really do have some great stuff.

We do have more angles in some of the other episodes, but I was solo there for awhile. We've also talked about getting more footage with the customers and their stories and incorporating then in.

Hawk I sent you a text about the graphics.

I enjoyed this, I think it's a great concept. It seems like a little music here and there would liven it up a bit. Like when the cops were looking for the valve, some subtle suspense music to build the excitment of them possibly finding a stolen item. It's one of those subconsious things that sucks you in more and gets you anxious and keeps your attention.

Most successful reality shows cut to the main characters in a different location,(different room, warehouse ect...) where they give little sound bites. I think more of those would help to break it down to seperate sequences.

( An example would be when the guy brings in the canister tank, and they argue about whether it's stainless steal or aluminun, a cut away to the guy that works there talking about how everytime this guy comes in he tries to get over for a few extra cents. Then maybe cut to the customer talking about the business, and how they try to nickel and dime him on every item he brings in an item. Thats just an example, but you get the point.

These are just a few things I noticed. I feel this has the potential to be a hit show. Just keep in mind there's always one character thats outragous, one that everybody hates, you just need to find and expose one with drama going on, maybe in their home life, and tie it in with the work scene.

As far a customers go, the stranger the better, people love to see people that are out of their mind. Makes them feel good about themselves. good luck looking foreward to seeing this on television.

Thanks! I think it has great potential too. Yeah, I've been sooooo busy that I didn't add any music to it yet. I plan to at some point. I think it'll definitely liven it up. I've never done music for this type of show, so it'll be a learning curve and I knew that, so I've just been putting it on the back-burner. We do need to make some changes to the edit and add more interviews, but it's been tough to say the least, just to get what we have. We haven't had 100% cooperation from everybody and I plan to have a meeting with the owner to address that.

This show is a lock for a deal, lend me a dollar.

I hope you're right, John! That's what I've been thinking all along. If it does hit, I'll give you 2 dollars!
