making money from youtube?

Does anyone know the average of how much you would get a month if payed by youtube?

There is no average. It depends on way way way too many factors. Some people are a bit less than $1. Some people are a touch less than $10,000

so rally mat have you flown the 5d yet with the quad heli thing?
7D, yes. But I much prefer my TM700 for aerial work.

Yeah, we struggled with the partner thing. We've not done it because we don't want ads before our videos, we think that is annoying so we don't want anyone else to deal with it. Our first video is >600k right now.

Our likes are 6,941
Our dislikes are 125

Not a bad ratio, but only 10% clicked like. In any case, we are about to release part 3 in 3 days and see if we can blow the first one out of the water. Of course, what we think will happen is the third one is just gonna drive the first one up more :)

We started our channel to promote our movie we are doing (Beat Down Boogie) but I'll be honest, the popularity of our parody has us wondering what our next step should be.

I know some people advertise stuff like t-shirts on their popular videos. Not sure how well that works. Interesting nevertheless.

Hey Grimepooch, I think its dangerous to judge the possible popularity of a movie (Beat Down Boogie) based on youtube.
They are ENTIRELY different things and different markets.

When a user views youtube their mindset is different, they are clicking around surfing the web looking for a quick laugh
short form is good, comedy is good, as a writer you have 3 seconds to get their interest or the customer is gone.

With a movie ... well there you have it. 'Movie' says it all. When someone decides to see a movie then they have already
decided to sit down, mentally relax and hopefully be entertained for 90 mins.

I completely agree that they are different things, that is without doubt. We are not judging the popularity of the movie on our YouTube channel at all, we think the movie will be great and not something that would be shown on YouTube since it is a full length film. What I meant to say is that we've just changed directions a little bit as we kind of look forward in what we are doing. The whole 'webisode' concept is not something we had played with before. There are others who are doing the same thing, like freddiew, who are having a lot of fun with it as well. We too have thought about the OP question as well. It's great to have such a big audience and the challenge of short form. Different beasts altogether.

That said, what we hope to achieve with YouTube is people coming to know us who are interested in the same types of movies we make. After going through the normal channels of filmmaking, with a distributor and global markets, we want to do something different. Content delivery is in such a state of flux at the moment, we want to ride the train into new methods, if that makes sense. It's such a blank card :)

The other nice thing about these shorts is since they don't take as much time to produce, you really start learning faster than putting all your eggs in one basket, if that makes sense.

Besides if people dont like at all or hate video from youtube their view adds number to the counter anyway, even if you will turn off video after 5 seconds it still adds to the counter, they should only count views if video would be watched from beginning to end.

Before youtube came along I used to stream my short films from my own site, I did this for my first four shorts.
But then youtube happened and I realized I need not pay through the nose for bandwidth from my web hosting anymore.
Then I got a little tempted by the numbers/hits game, and my 5th short was me experimenting with this, however it kept
getting banned every time it hit 250k (three times it happened). I also had the same realization that jetaddiction had in post 1.
I saw all these dogs on skateboards and mentos+coke videos getting a million hits in a week and I knew short comedic skits
is not what I want to do.

Other sites have tried that, the problem is, people shut it off before the credits finish. Maybe if they did a 'you watched 50%' rule, but then, what if people skip ahead. I think the current system works okay because that person that didn't like it is likely not to pass it along, so that is what prevents it from getting huge.

Notice pretty much all comedy. Which probably explains why our comedy stuff does so well :) No one looks for heart to heart on YouTube, and probably because people who do slideshow movies with some sad sound track ruined it for everyone :)

For reference, here is a popular youtube partner's video and notice the how many likes and comments despite less views than the OP's video.

The difference is that you can't really comment much on a short video with a scary person. But you can comment a lot on a longer video with stupid people talking.

they contacted me after about 15k spins of this video. I used a little powershot canon and final cut express back when I started getting interested in video prod. I don't know why, but I guess because I did the music, and video, and I had an original creation. I built the model, and used my own custom modded electronics to build the car.

well my clip has now gone over 2,000,000. hits in the past month .. so last night tosh.o from comedy central played it twice and his show . lasted for about 2 minutes . I must be able to get some $$$ off the comedy channel for 2 min of air time . i was contacted by the bbc and they are paying $400 for airing the clip.. anyone know about youtube and broadcast tv?

When you go to edit your video, there are syndication options at the very bottom.

One that says " Yes, make this video available on mobile phones and TV. Note, the video may not be available on all devices due to copyright or licensing issues. "

and one that says " No, this video should not be available on mobile phones and TV. "

So you probably are out of luck with Comedy Central, but never hurts to find the right digits to corporate.
