T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Shutting off... that means with error 70? Does this happen with older builds?

Does not give an error code, just shuts off and has happened with every build I've put in. have a big shoot this weekend, and trying to get familiar. Great work you guys got going with this a1ex

Odd- first I've heard of ML randomly shutting off a camera! Are you talking about the power saving feature that times out? Does it do that even without running Magic Lantern, or only when you run it?

When it shuts off? After a few minutes? In the middle or recording? When it's in LiveView and doing nothing?

Things to check:
- Are you running 1.0.9 firmware?
- If you clear camera settings, does it help?
- If you start ML without config file, does it help?
- What's the value of the power off timer? (default is 30 seconds I think... but I like it at 4 or 8 minutes)
- Try the 0.2.0 build (at least that one shouldn't shut off...)

It doesent hae to be recording to shut off, its done it both scenarios. - I am running the 1.0.9 firmware, had it installed before ML - I just tried clearing cam settings and lost the ML data displays at the bottom of the window - I will try without the config file and i guess my last recourse will be to try the 0.2.0 build, will be back with feedback

I know this sounds silly, but is it doing that when you DON'T run Magic Lantern? (IE, put in a freshly formatted SD card and see if it still happens)

Magic Zoom Window freezes

Magic Zoom Window freezes

Hi Guys,
Reporting a potential bug in the 13/03 build. It's to do with the magic zoom window freezing following recording movie (on then off). It froze on me once with last frame of movie still present and then would do it with black at other times. The only way to remove this is to switch the camera off and on again. I can go into the magic lantern menu set magic zoom to 'off' but when I reset it to 'always on' again the same freezed frame reappears. Have others had this same problem? This ones for you Alex - if there's someone out there who can solve it it's you - keep up the good work!

I use the Rode VideoMic Pro with T2i and Magic lantern and it's great.

I use the regular Rode VideoMic (not the new Pro model) and Magic Lantern. In order to get a good signal I have to set the analog gain to maximum -- and even add a little digital gain sometimes. That adds a little hiss -- not bad but it's there. I'm sure the Pro version with its added 20dB boost works great. Can't afford the $250 right now for a new mic. :(

Yes, I use a juicedLink Mixer for real work, but with the Rode VideoMic Pro set to +20db boost I have the T2i set to 10DB analogue gain, and 0 digital gain, and I get no noise. I could even go down to 0db analogue gain and be fine if I have the mic on a boom. With any other mic you'll need a preamp to boost the signal.

Any word on the one user that bricked his T2i or the other that has shut off issues? I have been testing for over a month and I love it, but first paying gig with ML is tomorrow and I am getting worried.

Here is a Video Review showing headphone monitoring on the T2i/550D with adapters and a new modified cable. To repeat, you have to start the camera and then plug in the USB cable. http://vimeo.com/20978887

Indeed, I like adapter cables too. But this one foot usb to 1/8" trs female cable is going for $40! The other cables are going for $20 to $30, which IMHO is already expensive. It seems to me the only reason that this is $40 is because it's new -- and there's no one else making them. I'll stick to the original USB cable and a $3 adapter at this point -- at least until the price on these comes down substantially. Any other opinions on the price of this cable?

I think we should instead send a small contribution to the ML development team in appreciation for their hard work and for further development on an initial final version of ML.

An informed comment (not an opinion) on the price of the cable. The reason this cable is relatively high priced is simply because of the cost to build the cable. The Canon USB AV out cable is a 6 pin proprietary cable. This 6 pin USB mini connector is not available from any other vendor. To build this cable the manufacturer has to first purchase the cables from Canon and then modify them.

What are you talking about ? Most "I BROKE MY T2i BEWARE <crycry>" topics come from bitbucket anonymous posts, people dont check their cams and dont read manuals and mistakes happen, they arent even coming back if camera is working again normally but post about "bricked cam" stays.I dont know about bricked cam,so far all mistakes are on sides of lazy users who not bother to read manuals before installing and they delete magic lantern from card without removing bootflag.
To brick the cam you would need to write its startup sequence permanently which ML doesnt do,you remove card and there is not ML on cam. There is a way to lock the camera (if wrong addresses are set through firmware tho,but Alex keeps eye on this so suspicious and untested code isnt released, he knows what he's doing.
Biggest risk is for Alex, his camera is first one in line most of the time when testing new stuff.

Question: When using this modded cable, are we able to use the camera's LCD? As it is, when I plug in the supplied USB cable to monitor audio, I am forced to use an external video monitor - which takes away all the elegance of a small rig.

Chadfish -- You shouldn't be having this problem. Plug the USB A/V cable in after startup to monitor audio and the on camera LCD display still works. It works on my T2i and I monitor audio. Are you using an older build?
