T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Man I feel like an idiot. Thank you! I guess it was doing the refresh that through me. Again thanks so much for the work that went into this.

Why "Trap focus" function is so slow ? I thought it can catch falling things which comes in focus, but it doesn't :/ Am I doing something wrong or it just won't work ?

For dropping things, maybe motion detection (maybe coupled with silent pictures) would work better.

A1ex, have you done something with the audio meters ? they seem less responsive (or they act as is their threshold has been raised)

It seems like you need a really loud source for them to respond at all....

Thanks Colin... tried it. unfortunately it didn't work for me. I did a in/out on canon's menu.... took out the battery.... to no avail.

Strange thing is : even tapping on the top of the camera, next to the mic input holes... yielded no movement (no response) on the audio meter (!)

Dunno... maybe I have done something wrong...

Hope A1ex will comment on this

Audio Meters less responsive

Audio Meters less responsive

I have found the audio meters less responsive too particularly using the external input. I thought it was my rode video mic but probably not. To get enough volume I need to max out the analogue gain and need somewhere between 6-12db on the digital gain which isn't good. It would be fantastic if Alex could look into this for us. I am currently doing interviews with my 550d and best audio is a must. Many thanks for any help you could offer.

So a little bird told me that ML on the 550d can do correct HDMI output via HDMI? None of that crappy SD output? Confirm/Deny?

I think all we have is *clean* hdmi out, as in "no menus or info or anything overlaid"

it's still SD while recording
it's still upscaled weird resolution while not recording
it still includes black rectangles at top and bottom, for a 4:3 whole image instead of 16:9
no changes to frame rate and such

someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

Yes, all we have is clean HDMI output without any overlays.

Audio meters seem to behave a bit different than in 0.2.0, trying to figure out why...

Hi Alex.
Just tried the above build, audio meters still not moving a lot, its fine after I have hit the menu button twice. The build I have been using regularly "28 January" does not have this problem. hope this is of help.
Confirmed here.

Meters are moving but strangely. on first boot, the red dots (peak values) are pink (?) and there's no green "fill". press the (canon) menu button, the peak dots become blue with occasional green fill. press the (canon) menu button again, and it SEEMS to behave as expected (although at this point I don't really know what IS expected....:))

28 january and all other ML builds have the same bug: the color palette changes a bit, so peaks are sometimes pink, other times blue...

False color has the same problem (see user guide).

I do not notice any difference between 28jan and latest build, regarding audio meters (at least the sensitivity and update speed are the same, both before pressing menu and after). If you see differences, post a short video which shows them.

Hello everybody,

Ive been checking in on every Magic Lantern thread I can find for months now.
It is amazing the progress Alex has made. Kudos and a very large tip of the hat to you sir.

This is a very cool scene.

It looks like the 550d would be very good for Chromakey using a non audio version of Magic Lantern.

Theres a lot of talk about recording straight out of the hdmi port in 4:2:2 colour space - very good for colour keys

Looking at the 550d vram wiki, it seems the resolution is full HD: 1056x704in non recording mode, that would be good enough for me, thank you very much alex.

My Questions are:

Has anyone tried this using the 550d t2i in Pal mode, which is 50fps. ?

If you have, were you able to record the Pal ?

How does it look. ?

Could you upload a 1 second sample please ?

Many thanks

D-Allstar

With HDMI, LiveView resolution (when not recording) is 1920x1080.

Also, in latest builds, you can toggle audio monitoring from menu (a camera restart may be needed).
