T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Future builds - Follow Focus Buttons (possible or not?)

Future builds - Follow Focus Buttons (possible or not?)

Hi Alex - I don't know if it is possible as I know the T2i has limited buttons left for ML, but as an independent film maker, I would really appreciate on future builds some sort of in-camera follow-focus system.

Is it at all possible to have two follow-focus buttons (one for either direction)?
I know it's probably not that simple but I thought I would ask anyway!

Please let me know - fantastic work so far - ML has breathed new life into my T2i.

Zerocode

ps. - one more question - what is the python script file in recent zip builds for? Do I need to also copy it on to the SD card when trying new builds. - thanks.

Any strobists around here? I've added flash exposure compensation from -10EV to +3EV.
I am!! Awesome news. I would love the option to have manual flash control, the TTL always triggers my light slaves and i haven't found a way to do any full manual. I don't know if thats possible.

I'm a newbie when it comes to flashes (I almost never use them, and I'm clueless when it comes to external flashes). Yesterday I had a tricky shot with the sun in the back, and I needed a bit of flash (but -2 was way too much). That's why I've added it.

What do you think about auto-decreasing stills quality in burst mode? E.g. if you have set RAW+L, you can only take 3 pics until it slows down. I'd like to take first pic RAW, then a few pics large jpeg, and when the buffer fills again, switch to medium jpeg (or small jpeg on slow cards).

Zerocode: sure, what about LCD sensor + left/right? Did you try covering LCD sensor and pressing up/down? How does it work?

So what a light slave does is whenever it sees a flash, it makes a light hooked up to it also flash, so you can have a flash off camera fire too, without expensive wireless triggers.
TTL flashes the light twice, too fast to see with the human eye. It calculates exposure before the flash, and at the first, weak flash, and figures out how much more it needs to make things properly exposed then opens the shutter and fires the second flash, getting a properly exposed flash.
The problem with TTL and light slaves is that the off camera flash gets triggered by the first, test flash. So the off camera flash fires before the shutter is even open.
Manual control of flash would mean skipping the first flash and having the flash fire after the shutter opens at set powers, usually fractions of full power.
Its ridiculous that the T2i only has TTL (they call it E-TTL II), and it would be amazing if this was possible with ML.
I know pretty much nothing about programing, but I know photography and video better than I know anything else.

What may help is to analyze a 5D2 to see how it's doing it. If we are lucky and this is a setting which is actually implemented in the firmware, but disabled in menus (like it was the Kelvin WB), it may be possible.

How does this option look in 5D2 menu?

Well the 60D has a pop up flash. Hopefuly someone here has one and can answer whether it has manual flash control?

Any strobists around here? I've added flash exposure compensation from -10EV to +3EV...

If I understand this correctly, ie reduce the output of the on-board flash, then yes it will be very useful. I just had an issue the other night where I was using the on-board to trigger a studio light and the on-board, even at -2EV was overpowering my studio flash.

Thanks Alex, -cp

I'm not sure if it reduces the output power or (starting from one point) just adjusts the sync, so try it and share your results :)

But I do notice light changes at all the settings from -10 to +3 (and -10 is pretty much like without flash, but a bit brighter).

I did not add settings higher than +3 because I can't see their usefulness.

I just updated. Does K white balance not work now?
It worked fine before.

I also noticed Ive been running on batteries a lot faster than before.
I'm already on my 2nd recharge when normally my first battery would only be about half way by now.

ADD-ON:
I went back to the Feb 12th version, and Kelvin White Balance does work on that one. I tried the newest one again, and it didnt.

Try one of the Feb 14 ones, those are confirmed to work.

I don't know of any power consumption test, but if you use zebra / focus peaking and maybe others, the battery will die faster. It would be very helpful if anyone has the equipment to test this (an external power adapter and miliampermeter will do).

Oh, I never knew there was a Feb 14 one. That one seems to be working fine. :D

I am using is: Zebras (when not recording), Peaking (Shortcut key), Audio Meter, Cropmarks. So, it shouldn't be wasting that much battery life that fast. But, I do know for a fact is it going by faster than usual.

i just put Magic Lantern onto my T2I, and all i can say is wow. this opens so many oppritunites and i love having manual audio :)

Can someone walk me through the process of removing the ML bootflag from my 550D. The camera is going in to have a new front panel fitted, the rubber from the grip has started to peel back. I just want to send it back in its original state. Do I open the cfg file in notepad to add the neccesary line, magic.disable_bootdiskf = 1
after that, what?? Sorry for asking what is probably a basic question, but better safe than sorry.
Thanks.

After that, you start ML. It will uninstall itsefl.

You may also want to clear settings (from Canon menu).

Thanks Alex.

So my steps would be.
Open the SDHC card on my PC
Open the cfg file in notepad, and add the line magic.disable_bootdiskf = 1 and save
Put the SDHC card back in the camera
Turn on
Clear settings (from Canon menu)

Appreciate your help

Does this remove all reference of ML in Firmware ver on the Canon menu ? Do you know if anyone has had any problems when removing it ???
