T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

haha awesome, its not the prettiest but whatever, im super excited to use this stuff.

yeah, it's still definitely a "hacked" solution but if you can get over the fact that the menus won't be as pristine as Canon's then it's just killer. Good luck on your ML odyssey!

ok im considering installing magic lantern on my t2i, but please someone clear this up for me:

i'm under the impression that once I have it installed, the menu system I see is based on wether or not my card has the proper magic lantern files on it. so if my card as the magic lantern files i will be in "magic lantern mode". but if i put an sd card in without magic lantern files, i will just be in regular canon t2i mode with factory menus.

is this correct? i really don't want to be stuck with a crazy hacked menu system as my only option. i'd like to be able to swap back and forth. someone please clear this up for me.

thanks!

Hi there - love 'Magic Lantern' so far - thanks for all the good work being done on this - you guys are great.

Question though for Alex and others - I have installed the base ML, but when I come to download recent builds I notice that some (most) builds don't contain a 'magic.cfg' file? Do I assume that I don't I have to worry about the 'magic.cfg' file and keep the original on the SD Card and just copy/overwrite all the other files contained in the zip? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

ML, on the camera, will generate a magic.cfg file when you "save config"

I'm not sure if the old cfg file will work with newer builds... just as a precaution, when I upgrade the ML build, I delete the cfg file, install ML, configure everything as I want, "save config", then copy the new cfg file to the PC, on my location for "stuff I'll copy to the SD card each time after formatting it" (the needed ML files, cfg file, and custom cropmarks)

I have a strange problem with the latest build :

On a 16GB SanDisk card, the focus peaking manifest itself as yellow contour around focus edges.
But
With 8GB SanDisk cards... I get colorful dots (around focus edges).

Anyone else noticed that ?

Thanks

Check your Unified Loop setting (this enables an alternate mode for zebra and focus peaking, which is compatible with external displays, but still has a few glitches which kept me from enabling it by default).

The new focus peaking algorithm works when unified loop is off.

Nope.

Tried unified loop ---> off : still have focus peaking painted in arbitrary set of colors (as opposed to plain yellow on my 16GB card)

Strange...

Again : the problem manifest itself only on my 8GB class 6 SanDisk cards. on the 16GB class 10 card, it looks normal (yellow)

Yup, you are correct. Using a card without ML is just like using the camera straight out of the box.

hey so i installed magic lantern and im just trying to figure out why it doesn't look exactly like i see it on other cameras online. this is what it looks like on my camera:

and this is what it should look like right?

I think you're using an old build

look for a newer one posted by a1ex in the last pages of this thread

Then check the color setting of focus peaking, is it Y in both cases?
NO ! :undecided

Well, I had to RTFM... :)

Strange that I haven't touched any of the setting, yet the 8GB cards defaulted to CC2 and
the 16GB card to Y....

So, this part is OK now...

(I'm new to ML, so bare with me for a little while, yes ?... :dankk2:)
