T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

This would also allow you to capture uncompressed footage in a higher quality codec with better color space.

If this is true, it would be pretty incredible. I do not know if the single DIGIC processor would be able to keep up. Or maybe the SD card would buffer underrun first. But here's hoping... :)

What's the ideal reading on the ML spotmeter. 50%?
It depends ,on the same frame you have somthing white or black and it will show different values even when its not dark in the room at all,i have it off , i judge picture by eye mostly.
What would allow to capture in different codec ? CAmera cant use different codec,it has hardware for h264 ,its not like you can load codec pack and try different compression.
DDirector i have digital L/R on 0 and analog 26, you can test this yourself ,record video and change settings while speaking to microphone what you did with settings then listen to it on computer.

Now some serious magic is happening on Alex camera and he succeeded to change white balance with kelvin values !!!! :2vrolijk_08:
So big breakthroughs in 3 days !!!!
Still testing :)

If ML for the t2i gets to the point where it allows you to dial in a WB that would be sooo awesome. Going to donate.

It got to this point but you scroll through values :) Now it only needs small fix to use 2500-10000 range instead of tested 2800-10000

ML guys, thanks. I donated.

I'm on Mac OS X so thanks to those who shared their experiences. I'm kinda embarrassed, but I was stumped at first because I forgot to install firm 1.0.9 from Canon FIRST. Oops. I'm on an iMac, so I had to find the proper code to replace

# change this
dev=/dev/disk1s1

My iMac was

# change this
dev=/dev/disk3s1

It's working and I can't wait to try it out.

yes but 60d doesnt have iso speeds like 115 or shutter speeds like 110 ,550D is now unlocked to the max in those functions,im not saying shutter 110 is a must have wanted option or something but its great to have all possible shutter speeds and ISO's unlocked :) we are freee

so based on this pace when I wake up tomorrow we should have unlimited recording time and HD out during recording

^ Haha. Im guessing so too. :P

The T2i is so damn awesome now!! I am so thankful I did not sell it and buy the 7D instead.
The only difference I see still is not being able to output in HD while recording and the frame rate for shooting stills.
-------------------------

The ML is awesome!!
Those weird words that appear when the camera is turned on now disappear for me. :D

It would also be nice to include the level bar while recording handheld to see if you are level or not. - Most likely not possible, or required. But, you never know...

With the new ISO's. Does that mean that they will have less noise?
I heard that using the right ISO's has less noise than others. If this is the case with the new ISO's on the T2i, which should we be using then?
Instead of: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400
Does that mean we should be using native ISO: 160, 320, 640, 1250, 2500, 5000
Or does it not really matter? But, there are a lot of in between ISOs. So, I dont really know.

I cant test this out as Im leaving in a few hours. So, I just wanted to see if anyone else knew.

Also, if you connect an external monitor to the camera, all the features will be visible on the monitor, right?

yes but zebras and histogram are not displayed correctly on monitor yet.
Its possible to record aboyt 20 mimnutes of video in 4GB using Qscale but recording clips one after another without at least second of cut is not possible cause camera is blind after buffer stops working when saving the mov file to the card so its not worthy to have that immediate recording of second vid .

but is possible to imagine that you take some cpu time to create the new file (let say one second before reaching limit), then moving the pointer that write to the previous file (?filename) to the new file. The buffer should not see anything and continue to fill the new file.
there would be just to add a flag at the "empty buffer and write it here" procedure to indicate if it must be written in file 1 or 2.
then you can close the old pending file.
i am not sure the software can handle several file handle at a time.

you would have to talk with coders ,they'll explain it to you, camera is blind for some time to any commands when buffer starts working during saving the file.

Does the increased bitrate help in 720p 60p, has anybody tested it?

Also, I installed the public version from a couple days ago. When I update to the new ISO/Shutter version do I have to do the whole process over again, or just copy the files onto the SD card? And do I need to reformat the card first?

"camera is blind for some time to any commands when buffer starts working during saving the file"
I understand, probably they need to empty the buffer, so they block any data going into it until file is totally written and closed.
but would it be possible to just switch the writing to another file (the buffer is saved to the card at regular interval or it should be 4 gig size, so there is a way to write to the card without blinding the camera.).
this way we could write continuously until all file are closed, if this is only possible for 2 files, it should be still ok (8 gig instead 4).
I do not know if closing the file require just stop writing to it, or if calculations are done for some header.
The idea is the cpu is somewhat streaming the sensor to a file to the card, there must be a way to switch seamlessly the writing to another file.
the limitation is not into the CPU, but in the FAT32 specs.

IMO people should post more on google mlantern group , i got too excited about all this and i got out of hand a bit so its better to ask there,i dont want to give out anymore info myself.
Some more input from users is needed, for example when zebras got bad on external monitor and if there is someone who has them displayed right on external device cause people are not sure if this is a problem since 1st version with zebras.

This is incredible especially for video, the problem is that: if I Off/On the camera the whole configuration gets lost

Thanks a lot for my new 550dML

Hey guys, just did the ML thing for the first time, yay ! :D

ZONAZEN > Just hit the set button when you're on "save config" in ML's last tab - that seems to save my settings when I turn the t2i on/off :)

Also, I installed the "front page" newly released ML first, which looked fine - the nex .bin files I updated to where dec20th, and dec22nd - they both make the ML gui flicker, which seems weird..?! but this is a minor issue...
