T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

It seems this only works when recording in full HD (known bug, will be fixed).
Thanks got it now in 1080.
Is it because the source image is 1080 and when it tries to overlay the focus points on a 720p it just doesn't sync properly?

A1ex,

Is there any way to get the focus peaking feature to work in stills/shoot mode for those of use using manual lenses?

Dear Magic Lantern Developers: I was so happy to have AGC disable, audio meters, and zebras on my t2i that I had no intention of so rapidly installing the latest build. But then I read such rave reviews that I had to give it a try: faster zebras, focus peaking assist, awesome cinemascope crop, etc. Thank you for transforming my t2i into a Panasonic AF100!

Apparently you are all so amazing that I just have one final request. Could you write a code like in the Transformers movies where I push a button and panels pop out that include balanced xlr inputs and a Zacuto style shoulder rig?

LOL. All joking aside, I was thinking about there being an official Magic Lantern hardware store, where you can buy audio monitoring cables, XLR to 3.5mm adapters, etc... heck, even ML T-shirts and merchandise, proceeds would go to supporting future development. But then we run the risk of having our boys go all commercial on us. ;)

I think that is a fantastic idea. Of course, I am pretty sure they can't legally sell the firmware because it is based off of Canon's development (Canon's legal team would have a field day with that) but I think a store would be a fantastic idea to help support all of the hard work these guys are doing. I would buy a Magic Lantern t-shirt :P

Honestly, I don't see this as viable. The only people that would feel some obligation to purchase the products would be users of ML. Then this amazing group of people would have the headache of purchasing products, stocking, order processing and fulfillment, etc.

IMO their proven expertise is in R&D, technical development, writing code, etc. I want them to focus their time and talent on this area. Look what they've produced in a short few months. I think we should help them in R&D by making contributions via their site: http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Here's what they have to say, "Magic Lantern has been developed by independent film makers in our spare time and at risk to our beloved cameras. We hope that it saves you time and aggravation on set, and we'd appreciate your support. You can help us through donating via PayPal, wishlists or through equipment donations."

+1

maybe someone could join the project just for setting up this shop, but even in that case I'm not sure they wouldn't end up in murky waters with the legal department at canon (selling stuff is not the same as accepting donations)

I don't see how that could land in any murky waters. People who are using ML suddenly are interested in very niche products, like an audio adapter to go from the camera's USB RCA jacks to a headphone jack for audio monitoring. These parts are actually hard to find, mostly because the average consumer would never need that exact part. Now that ML users want them, usually you'll find some niche electronics sellers posting on ebay and amazon stores with titles like "RCA female to 3.5mm jack- perfect for Magic Lantern!". Well, why shouldn't the ML devs get a cut of that? Maybe have something sanctioned to be tested and working for the setup. Sort of like an approved accessory. The other stuff I mentioned (T-shirts, merchandising) was just cheesy fun I pictured when trying to flesh out a store. I suppose that stuff could land in more murky waters, but even still- there's nothing incriminating about selling a T-shirt. I think that would be arguable as well.

I see it as kind of the same way a lot of cell phone hack forums and dev sites have their own "official accessory store" as a sister site for cases, headphones, etc. Once you're there hacking your device, might as well buy the stuff you'll need, too.

Again, it was only an idea that popped into my head, and I agree that its a bad one if it means taking away project time from actual development to focus on this. Maybe for someone who wants to donate but can't afford to right now would like to volunteer... who knows. Either way, its not really our decision- its theirs. And I apologize for taking this thread horribly off topic.

Back to ML!

Need Help!!

For some reason when I get to the step to update the firmware with magiclanter.fir/enable bootflag I get the following dialogue:

Update file cannot be found. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again.

The camera freezes and I have to take the battery out to reboot. I've double, triple and quadruple checked that I've followed all the install steps exactly as described on the wiki. No clue how to proceed...Any one have any thoughts? I want to use ML so bad its friggin killin me...

Did you use the PDF instructions from the .zip file, or did you follow the instructions on the wiki site? I think the instructions are much more thorough in the PDF in the .zip.

Also, what model of Mac are you using? I had to change to code to match my iMac (which is also in the PDF instructions).

I followed the PDF instructions and its a Late 2008 macbook pro 10.6.5 OS. Haven't been able to find anyone who has documented a similar issue which makes it tough to figure out what steps to take to resolve this...

So you were able to make the card bootable? This is the step that I was stuck on (using make_bootable.sh):

You can use make_bootable.sh, which is included in the archive. You need to change the following line in order to indicate your SD card device:
# change this dev=/dev/disk1s1
• To find the correct /dev/ entry under OS X type:
diskutil list | grep FAT
That will list all mounted FAT disks, the /dev/ entry is the last column. Note also that under OS X this script will leave the card unmounted, eject and reinsert it to re-mount it.

Is there a single place I can go to see all the recent builds and what they also disable?

I stopped at the Jan 7th that enabled audio monitoring. I would like to upgrade to the newer one (s) that enable peaking but I definitely can't afford to lose HDMI video out. I don't even know if I still have HDMI out for the jan7th build.

Got it to work, finally! Thanks for your help.
