I agree, Henry, the best of the tests that are coming out are as good as anything I've seen. There's a lot of not so great attempts to sort through as well. The Garbage-In/Garbage-Out concept really applies to vimeo. I'd been noticing in past months just how well vimeo deals with BMCC footage, and now am seeing a similar effect with the raw 5d stuff. You really see it in the H264 vs raw 5d tests... the H264 just don't like vimeo's compressor.
I'm working abroad for the month and so have no ability to mess with/test/play with this stuff. We're I home in the states, I'd likely have picked up a 5d3 by now, so exciting is the test footage... .as it is, I'm feeling lucky to watch from the sidelines and see how it shakes out.
My biggest concern is the vertical banding seen in some videos (here's another, look in the blue sky at 2x mag): https://vimeo.com/66696259
Don't think I'm seeing it on this one you posted: https://vimeo.com/66680965

Have you guys noticed how the hacked footage has incredible separation? A lot of the subjects jump out of the screen even after compression viewing on Vimeo. I guess that is a combo of full frame and the lack of compression and yes it is subtle but visible. I have viewed a lot of RED footage and I am convinced that it doesn't have 'that' 3D look to it. Alexa is better but this is one of the things that has struck me the most problems of workflow aside. Also when you view downloaded footage at half screen and then go full screen the sharpness remains. A lot of inferior footage I have seems to get a lot sharper when downsampled but the hack stuff at full screen stays tack sharp. IOW - even when I view it close up it still looks great. Do you guys know what I mean or have I eaten too many marshmallows?
I am really starting to see the true potential of this beast but still undecided. Many times - I have found myself saying wow that looks great. More than I have said for videos in the past. I am really impressed.
One more thing - Hear a lot of talk about RAIDs and tonnes of HDD space needed. Why aren't folk just transcoding to Cineform RAW and saving a lot of dough? I have successfully transcoded some of the earlier DNG samples and it does just fine. Don't know if the tool allows batch processing to a format Cineform knows yet though. Folks may be missing a trick here?
