Woah. [Checks the calender...nope, not April 1]

Kinda makes the clean HDMI out firmware update look a little unnecessary.

Edit: Well, not necessarily. Looks like this is for silent mode stills, but it's still cool.

Assuming that this is for real, I wonder what the resolution of the DNG files is and if they'll be about to record at 24fps.

I'm confused.

Is this for the Mk2 or Mk3?
Is this stills or video?
Is it recording to internal media or via the HDMI to an external recorder?

Presumably if its video it will be to an external recorder? Are they able to output 45 or 25 frames? What are the file sizes (full uncompressed)? Overheating?

Kholi just beat me to it, but yeah, it looks like this is just for silent stills mode. That could be useful for timelapse, as it would save wear and tear on the physical shutter. Perhaps they could bump up and extend the burst speed enough to make it usable for normal video, but I wouldn't hold my breath. That's a big firehose of data to be dumping onto a CF card. It's hard to picture how they might be able to output raw DNG to an external recorder with the hardware as-is.

I saw mention of a 2040x1428 resolution in one of the posts.

Neumann films seem to be testing this in the contaxt of making video; not making stills. This is where I'm confused.

They say: It's technically photo but so is the RAW video on the BMCC. Image sequences.

Interesting. So they hacked the live view feed and are storing the data as a Cinema DNG sequence, bypassing the 5D's video encoder entirely? Clever.

"Magic Lantern
It is a step in the right direction. Seeing as there is no RAW video even at the native res and no 4K with the native encoding yet, don't hold your breath."

People will infer that as they will, but it's basically a polite way of saying "no, not going to happen."

Neumann Films is putting out more info on their Facebook. They say they're getting about 10 fps currently. Here is another example they posted, promising a video and sample downloads soon:

Such a pessimist. They're getting 150 frames of 720p 24p recording to the card. If we can record the DNGs to a Convergent Odyssey and shoot with an Iscorama that's 2k RAW moire free VistaVision baby!
